How-to: PR/Collabs 🤔💭
I got you!! ⬇️
People often never know where to start when it comes to trying to secure a spot on their of favorite brands PR list, the same can be said for trying to secure collabs - gifted or paid!
I've created a quick and simple guide for you to follow if you’re just started your content creating journey or if you're simply looking to change your approach!
1. Do your research!
It's important that you research the different industries out there, keep yourself educated! Once you’ve got the education part down, you’re ready to niche down. 🙇🏽♀️ Example: In the beginning of all this, I thought I wanted to focus my content on motherhood and vlogging, but that didn’t feel most like me. It didn’t flow naturally, and it should!
2. Find your niche!
Try to figure out what type of niche you want to focus your content on. ( beauty, fashion, lifestyle, etc.) by doing this, you'll help brands understand their wants and your needs! This will also help you in the long run when trying to identify what specific brands you want to reach out to. 💻📲
* Example: I knew I liked doing makeup and figured, I’d niche down in the Beauty category! This decision should come naturally to you, don’t overthink it - focus on what you like doing!
3. Pitch yourself to brands!
Once you've niched down, it's easier to pitch yourself to brands! Your pitch should always be short and sweet. It should essentially be a few short sentences. (your name, social media handle(s), how you identify with this brand, why you'd like to work this brand, and now this would benefit the both of you) 📄
* Example: As I started messaging brands, I started noticing what messages worked and which ones didn’t. Here’s a sweet and simple template that I found works when messaging brands!
“Hi!!
I hope you all are doing well☺️ I am reaching out to you to explore an opportunity to test a few of your products and share a dedicated reel/post with these products as a way to promote your brand/products.
Please let me know if that's something you'd be interested in discussing further.
I really love your brand and would love to get the opportunity to work with you!
Thanks,
Irma Vazquez”
I get replies from brands using this pitch, but remember: if you don’t hear back, IT’S OK! there’s soooo many other brands out there who will, keep trying!
4. Have fun!
It's so easy to get wrapped up in trying to prove yourself and grow your socials, but it's important to celebrate those small wins and learn to live in the moment! ❤️ I usually take one or two days out of the week to decompress from social media and live in the moment! I put my phone down as much as a I can and take time to make sure I come back and feel refreshed with new ideas. I highly recommend you try this for yourself ☺️

So, you've got the basics down, but what really makes a PR or collaboration successful for us content creators? When I first started out, the terms 'PR' and 'collab' felt a bit mysterious. Essentially, PR (Public Relations) for creators often means getting products for review or being featured by a brand, helping them build buzz. Collaborations can range from gifted products (in exchange for content) to fully paid partnerships where you create specific content for a fee. The key is that both are about a mutually beneficial exchange: you get access to products or payment, and the brand gets exposure and authentic content from *you*. One thing I quickly learned was that finding your authentic niche, as mentioned in the main guide, is absolutely crucial. It's not just about picking 'beauty' or 'lifestyle.' It's about getting specific. For example, I found my sweet spot in reviewing skincare products for sensitive skin, or showcasing makeup looks that are easy for busy parents. Thinking about the hair care products I genuinely use and love helped me refine my focus. When you're truly passionate about your niche, your content shines, and brands notice that authenticity. It makes identifying the right brands so much easier too – I look for brands whose values align with mine and whose products I'd genuinely use even if they weren't sending them to me. Beyond the initial pitch template, making your communication stand out is vital. Many brands receive hundreds of pitches daily. What made my pitch successful, I believe, was not just being polite, but also briefly highlighting why my audience would connect with their product and what specific value I could bring. Before sending that email, I always make sure I've engaged with their content on social media, showing genuine interest. If you have a basic media kit (even just a PDF with your stats, audience demographics, and a few content examples), it can make a huge difference in demonstrating your professionalism and value. Don't be afraid to follow up once or twice if you don't hear back immediately – persistence often pays off! Once you land that first PR package collaboration or even a small gifted deal, it's a huge win! But the journey doesn't stop there. Communication is key. Always clarify expectations regarding deliverables, deadlines, and usage rights for your content. Over-deliver if you can! Providing high-quality content that genuinely showcases the product and resonates with your audience is what turns a one-off opportunity into a potential long-term pr partnership. I’ve found that thanking the brand sincerely and sharing your results (if available, e.g., engagement rates) can really solidify the relationship. Remember, every successful collaboration builds your portfolio and makes it easier to secure even bigger paid collabs in the future. Don't be discouraged by rejections; see them as redirection to brands that truly fit your unique content creator journey!

So did you find emailing them works better or dm messaging ? Probably email huh? How do you find the pr emails?
