5 things to do after bed rotting

This is what I always do after I bed rot for however many days.

1. Brush my hair.

I have very long hair that gets tangled easily so every day/every other day I try to get up and brush it, even if that’s all I manage to get done.

2. Brush my teeth.

I’m not too proud of my oral hygiene routine but I try to brush my teeth at least every other day. Sometimes that doesn’t happen… 😬 but I try, okay?

3. Skincare.

I love a hood skincare routine so if it’s been a few days, I try to get it done and get back in the habit, even if it’s just washing my face and applying a good moisturizer.

4. Wash your hair.

i normally wash my hair 1-2 a week but after bed rotting for a while, it feels so good to let my hair down, give it a good brush, and wash it, especially if I’ve been adding oil to it everyday.

5. Put it up in a protective hairstyle.

I plan on doing a separate post on my favorite protective hairstyles but the french braid if what is shown. It’s quick and fairly easy once you get the hang of it. I also like doing a simple bun, but my hair gets tangled so easily in them that a braid just makes more sense.

MORE IDEAS:

• eat something. Try to make it healthy, but anything is better than nothing. My favorite is fruit and softly scrambled eggs on toast.

• clean your room. Even if it’s just picking up the trash, it’s better than nothing and will make you feel much much better!!!

• drink some water. When I bed rot, I tend to choose drinks like tea and soda, so it’s ALWAYS a good idea to aim to get SOME water in. I aim for at least 40oz but you can have your own goal :)

... Read moreHey everyone! So, we've all been there, right? That feeling of being absolutely stuck in bed, scrolling endlessly, or just staring at the ceiling – that's what we call bed rotting. It's not always about being lazy; sometimes it’s burnout, overwhelm, or just a mental health dip. And honestly, it’s okay to have those days. The real challenge is finding that tiny spark to pull yourself out. My original post shared some practical steps after you’ve decided to move, but let’s talk about that initial hurdle. For me, the first step is often just acknowledging it. No judgment, just 'Okay, I've had my bed rotting time, now what’s the absolute smallest thing I can do?' Sometimes it's literally just rolling to the edge of the bed and letting my feet touch the floor. Or opening a curtain to let in some light – even if my bed remains unmade for a while. That little bit of sunlight can be surprisingly helpful! If doomscrolling has been a big part of your bed rot, try this: set a timer for 5 minutes. Tell yourself you can scroll for those 5 minutes, then the phone goes away, even if it's just to the other side of the room. It’s about breaking that immediate connection and giving your brain a tiny break. Once you're even slightly upright, those 'MORE IDEAS' from my list become super important. Let’s dive a bit deeper into them. When it comes to eating, don't feel pressured to cook a gourmet meal. Think 'aesthetic lazy girl' but with nutrition! My go-to is often a simple smoothie or some pre-cut fruit. If you have some eggs, softly scrambled eggs on toast are quick and comforting. The goal is just to fuel your body with something that isn’t just chips or candy. And cleaning? Oh, the thought of a whole room can be daunting. But what if you just picked up five pieces of trash? Or made your bed? Even just pulling up the duvet to cover the unmade sheets can make the room feel a fraction less chaotic. It's not about achieving perfection, it's about creating a tiny island of order that can motivate you further. Seeing that tidy spot, however small, can be a huge mental boost. Hydration is another big one. When I'm in a bed rot, I often forget to drink enough water, opting for sugary drinks or coffee. My trick? Keep a big water bottle right next to your bed. If getting up for water feels like too much, at least it’s within reach. Try adding a slice of lemon or cucumber to make it more appealing. Every little bit counts towards getting your body feeling better. Remember, these aren't monumental tasks. They're gentle nudges back towards feeling like yourself. Whether it’s picking up that trusty wooden hairbrush for a tangle-free start, giving your teeth a quick clean with a fresh toothbrush, or just applying a simple skincare product to feel a bit more put-together, every small act of self-care breaks the cycle. And yes, washing your hair with a good shampoo and then styling it into something easy like French braids can feel like a complete transformation! You've got this.
