I have really good tips for spring cleaning and you should follow along for my spring cleaning series today we are cleaning the shower and this is how you should clean your shower at least once a year because I do clean my shower with scour SOS pads and it still looks like this so just a friendly reminder.
You know that feeling when you step into a sparkling clean shower? It's the best! My original post touched on cleaning the shower at least once a year, and while scour SOS pads are great for tough spots, getting a truly clean shower that stays that way involves a few more steps and some smart strategies. Since many of you are looking for tips on how to clean your shower properly, I wanted to dive deeper into my full routine. First things first, preparation makes a huge difference. Before I even think about scrubbing, I always remove everything from the shower – shampoo bottles, loofahs, everything! This gives me a clear canvas. Then, I make sure to open a window or turn on the exhaust fan. Good ventilation is crucial when using cleaning products, and it helps the area dry faster afterward. Now, let's talk about those stubborn issues. Have you ever noticed how water sticks to soap scum on your tiles and glass? That's the enemy! To tackle this, I usually start with a pre-rinse using hot water. This helps loosen any surface grime. For daily cleaning, a simple spray of equal parts white vinegar and water can work wonders. Just spray it on after your shower and let it sit. For a deeper clean, especially if you have hard water stains or mildew, I’ll use a dedicated bathroom cleaner or a paste of baking soda and a little water for scrubbing. I find that using a stiff-bristled brush for grout lines and corners really helps get into those nooks and crannies where grime loves to hide. When it comes to the glass doors and tiles, I’ve learned a secret to prevent those annoying streaks and water droplets from sticking to the wall. After applying my cleaner and scrubbing, I rinse everything thoroughly with warm water, making sure all product residue is gone. This is where a good blade or squeegee comes into play! Seriously, investing in a good shower squeegee and using it after every single shower will drastically reduce soap scum and water spot buildup. It’s a game-changer. Just wipe down the glass doors and tile walls, and you’ll be amazed at how much longer your shower stays clean. For those extra tough spots that even SOS pads struggle with, sometimes a little extra elbow grease with a magic eraser or a pumice stone for toilet bowls (be careful on surfaces!) can do the trick. Always test in an inconspicuous area first, especially with stronger tools or chemicals. Finally, consistent maintenance is key. Besides squeegeeing, I try to give my shower a quick wipe-down once a week with an all-purpose cleaner. And don't forget to periodically clean your showerhead by soaking it in vinegar to remove mineral deposits. Following these steps has made my shower cleaning routine so much more effective, and trust me, it’s worth the effort for that sparkling, fresh feeling!
