GRWM for work at Ulta 💄✨
A lot of people don’t know this, but I’ve been working at Ulta since 2020… on and off.
I actually quit at one point because the environment I was in just wasn’t it. It felt toxic, and there were days I really didn’t even want to show up. But even through that, I met a couple of amazing people who are still my friends to this day 🤍
Now I’m back… and it’s a completely different experience. WAY better. I genuinely love my job again 🥹
I love my customers, and the feeling is mutual 🫶🏽✨
Just a reminder that sometimes it’s not the job—it’s the environment. And things really can get better 💫

Working at Ulta has truly taught me that the quality of your work environment can make all the difference. From personal experience, I realized that sometimes quitting a job isn’t about the work itself but the surrounding atmosphere. When I first started at Ulta in 2020, I faced what I would describe as a toxic environment. It wasn’t just the day-to-day tasks, but the overall mindset and interactions that drained me emotionally. During that period, I even found myself dreading going to work, which was a clear sign something needed to change. What helped me get through that tough time were the friendships I made. Having supportive colleagues can make a difficult environment more bearable, and luckily, some of those connections have lasted beyond Ulta. After deciding to leave, I took a break to focus on my mental health and reassess what I wanted from my career. Returning to Ulta was a revelation. The environment had shifted remarkably, and suddenly my work felt rewarding again. The difference was not just in the workplace policies but also in the positive energy that came from both leadership and coworkers. Customer interactions, which are at the heart of any retail job, became a source of joy. Knowing that my customers appreciated my help made the experience even more fulfilling. This journey has reinforced the importance of recognizing when a job isn’t the issue—sometimes it’s the environment or culture that needs to change. If you ever feel stuck or unhappy in your role, try to identify what exactly is causing that stress. It might be worth communicating with management or seeking support from your network before making decisions. For anyone working in retail or any fast-paced customer service role, remember that your attitude and the company culture play huge roles in how you feel about your job. Positive, respectful environments can foster loyalty and make going to work something to look forward to. Ultimately, my experience at Ulta taught me resilience and hope. Things can get better with time and change—whether it’s within your current workplace or by seeking new opportunities. Never underestimate the power of a supportive community and a healthy work atmosphere to transform your career.
