Okarun vs Alien Globalist drawing

... Read moreHey everyone! So glad you liked my Okarun drawing! It was an absolute blast to work on, and I wanted to share a bit more about my process and what inspired me to create this intense Dandadan manga panel. Dandadan's art style is just incredible, right? I'm always mesmerized by the dynamic black and white action scenes, especially anything involving Okarun and his crazy ghost form. For this piece, I really aimed to capture that raw energy and the chaos of an Alien Globalist battle. I started by re-reading some of my favorite chapters, paying close attention to how Yukinobu Tatsu handles movement and panel composition. Getting Okarun's spiky hair and his transformed state just right was a fun challenge – I tried to exaggerate the lines to show his power and the sheer force of his attacks! The OCR even picked up on the 'character with spiky hair' and 'debris and other figures,' which really captures the essence of what I was going for. One of the things I focused on was making the scene feel truly 'dynamic.' That meant lots of speed lines, debris flying around, and really pushing the poses of the characters. I also spent a lot of time on the inking. Black and white art can be tricky because you don't have color to guide the eye, so strong contrasts and varied line weights are super important. I used a mix of heavy lines for emphasis and finer lines for details on the debris and background figures. The 'detailed artwork' and 'intense battle scene' mentioned in the OCR are exactly what I strive for in my fan art! Capturing Okarun's iconic transformed state was probably the most rewarding part. There's a particular wildness to it that's hard to convey, but I think the aggressive lines and sharp angles helped. Imagine the impact of his punch or kick in that moment – that's what I tried to put onto the page. The struggle between Okarun and an Alien Globalist is always so visually exciting, and translating that into a single, powerful manga panel was incredibly satisfying. If you're thinking about drawing your own Dandadan fan art, here are a few tips based on what I learned: Study the Masters: Seriously, look at Tatsu's panels. How does he convey speed? How does he use shadows? Pay attention to the flow of action. Exaggerate: Dandadan is all about over-the-top action and expressions. Don't be afraid to push expressions and poses beyond realism. Focus on Contrast: For black and white, strong darks and bright whites will make your art pop. Try using solid blacks for clothing or deep shadows to make your characters stand out against lighter backgrounds. Practice Dynamic Poses: Don't just draw static figures. Think about the flow of movement and energy, even if it's just a simple sketch of Okarun running or jumping. Don't Be Afraid of the Details: Adding small elements like cracks in the ground, smoke, or tiny bits of debris can really enhance the 'intense battle scene' feel and add to the overall richness of your panel. This drawing, especially Okarun's iconic transformed state, felt like a real achievement. Sometimes it's hard to get that 'Cooked?' feeling, but I definitely felt it with this one. I hope this little peek into my drawing process helps inspire some of you to pick up your pens and create your own awesome Dandadan art! What's your favorite Dandadan moment or character you'd love to draw?
