Picadillo is a traditional Latin American dish known for its savory and comforting flavors, typically made with ground meat, potatoes, and a variety of spices. This particular recipe stands out due to its use of gold potatoes, which provide a creamy texture, balanced by the heat from a whole jalapeno pepper placed in the center during cooking. By blending tomato paste, beef bouillon, water, and cumin before adding them to the browned ground beef, the recipe ensures a rich and well-integrated sauce that deeply flavors the ingredients. For best results, use fresh ground beef with moderate fat content to keep the picadillo moist and tender. Adjust the seasoning by tasting as you cook, adding salt, pepper, and garlic powder according to preference. Adding the jalapeno whole allows the dish to have a subtle spicy undertone without overpowering the flavors, making it suitable for toddlers and the whole family. Serve picadillo warm with steamed rice or as a filling inside tortillas or empanadas. It also pairs well with black beans or a fresh salad to complete a hearty meal. This recipe’s simple but flavorful approach makes it an excellent staple for home cooks seeking authentic Latin flavors without complex preparation steps. Overall, this easy ground beef picadillo recipe is perfect for documenting family meals and introducing children to diverse flavors with toddler-friendly ingredients, combining nutrition, taste, and ease of cooking in one dish.
