Then, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Chain 3, slip stitch into the ring. Fasten off. Pull the magic ring tight. You should now have a lovely heart shape! Squaring It Up (Round 1): Join a new color (optional, but I love changing colors!) with a slip stitch into the top of the chain-3 from the first "hump" of your heart. Chain 3 (counts as DC). Work 2 DC into the same stitch. (This is your first corner cluster). Work a DC into the next 2 stitches. Work a HDC into the next 3 stitches. Work a SC into the next 2 stitches. Skip the central stitch (where the two heart halves meet at the bottom point). Work a SC into the next 2 stitches. Work a HDC into the next 3 stitches. Work a DC into the next 2 stitches. Now, in the top of the chain-3 from the second "hump" of your heart, work: 3 DC, Chain 2, 3 DC. (This is your second corner). Repeat the stitch sequence from the first corner, working around the other side of the heart. To finish the first corner, work 3 DC, Chain 2 into the starting corner space. Slip stitch to top of beginning Ch 3. Continue Squaring (Round 2 onwards): For subsequent rounds, it's just like a traditional granny square! Chain 3 (counts as DC). Work 2 DC into the same space. Work 3 DC into each space between the 3-DC clusters from the previous round. In each corner space (Chain 2 space), work: 3 DC, Chain 2, 3 DC. Repeat around, slip stitch to join. Continue for as many rounds as you like to reach your desired square size. My Personal Tips for Success: Yarn Choice: While any yarn works, I find cotton blends give a lovely stitch definition for these squares. Tension: Try to keep your tension consistent for a neater square. Don't pull too tight on the magic ring!
