Over 50 makeup!
After hitting the big 5-0, I realized my trusty old makeup routine wasn't quite cutting it anymore. Our skin changes, and so should our approach to beauty! I've spent years experimenting, and I'm excited to share my absolute best tips for women over 50 to help you achieve a radiant, confident look. Hydration is Your Holy Grail: Seriously, ladies, skincare is the foundation of flawless makeup, especially for mature skin. I swear by a rich, hydrating moisturizer and a good plumping serum before anything else. This creates a smooth, supple canvas, helping makeup glide on and preventing it from settling into fine lines. Don't skip primer either – it acts as a barrier and makes your makeup last longer without looking heavy. Foundation & Concealer: Less is More: Forget thick, full-coverage foundations that can look cakey. My go-to is a lightweight, luminous liquid foundation or a tinted moisturizer that evens out skin tone without masking it. For dark circles or imperfections, a creamy, hydrating concealer applied sparingly with your finger or a damp sponge works wonders. Tap, don't rub, and only apply where truly needed to avoid creasing. Eyes That Sparkle: Our eyes can sometimes need a little lift. I've found softer eyeliner shades like brown, charcoal, or even deep plum are far more flattering than harsh black. Instead of a thick line, I tightline my upper lash line for definition without heavy-handedness. For eyeshadow, stick to matte or satin finishes in neutral tones – think soft browns, taupes, and peaches. A touch of light shimmer in the inner corner can brighten things up! And always, always curl your lashes and use a lengthening, volumizing mascara to open up your eyes. A Healthy Flush with Cream Blush: Powder blushes can sometimes look dry or emphasize texture. That's why I'm a huge fan of cream blushes! They melt into the skin, giving you a natural, youthful flush. I apply mine on the apples of my cheeks and blend upwards towards my temples for a lifting effect. Lips: Plump & Hydrated: As we age, lips can lose their fullness and definition. My top tip here is hydration! Use a good lip balm regularly. For color, opt for hydrating lipsticks or tinted balms in softer, natural shades like rose, berry, or peach. If you love a bolder lip, use a lip liner that matches your natural lip color or your lipstick to prevent feathering and define your shape beautifully. A dab of clear gloss in the center of your bottom lip can also create an illusion of fullness. Setting it Right: To ensure everything stays put without looking overly matte, I use a very light dusting of translucent setting powder only on my T-zone. A good setting spray can also merge all your layers for a more natural, dewy finish. Remember, makeup should enhance your beauty, not hide it. Embrace your age with confidence, and let your makeup reflect the radiant woman you are!
