In your early days, pre-Hardmode, you'll rely on basic staves. The Flinx Staff is an excellent starting point, especially if you can get those Flinx fur resources quickly from the Ice biome. Soon after, you'll want to craft the Imp Staff using Hellstone bars. This little fiery demon is a fantastic companion for the Wall of Flesh fight. Don't forget the Obsidian Armor set; it's a game-changer for summoners in pre-Hardmode, boosting your minion damage and providing an extra minion slot. Once you hit Hardmode, the real fun begins! Your first priority should be getting the Spider Staff and the full Spider Armor set dropped by Black Recluses in the Underground Jungle. Following that, you'll want to get your hands on the Pygmy Armor, also known as Tiki Armor. This isn't a drop, but rather an item you purchase. To do this, you need to find the Witch Doctor NPC. He'll sell you the full Tiki Armor set once Plantera has been defeated, he is living in the Jungle biome, and you have a Pygmy Staff in your inventory. The Pygmy Staff itself is a rare drop from Plantera. The full Tiki Armor set provides incredible buffs: +3 minion slots, +30% minion damage, and a boost to whip range. Combining the Pygmy Necklace with the Tiki Armor will give you a formidable minion army ready to tackle anything Terraria throws at you. Beyond Pygmy gear, consider accessories like the Hercules Beetle and Papyrus Scarab for even more minion damage and knockback. Whips are also essential for summoners; they allow you to direct your minions' attacks and add extra damage. The Morning Star or Durendal are great options.
