It's always been a dream of mine to explore the depths of the ocean, especially the creatures living there. And let's not forget the majestic Shenlong, the benevolent dragon king of Chinese mythology, often associated with water and weather. These ancient tales speak to a universal human wonder and fear of the unknown ocean, populating its vastness with powerful, often magical, creatures. These powerful legends have always fueled my imagination, inspiring me to envision what new sea dragons might exist. It's not just about creating a cool design; it's about giving them a backstory, unique abilities, and a place in their own ecosystem. For instance, in my sketches, you might find creatures like the 'Poisonous Spike Lion.' With its formidable, striped body and prominent spikes, it's designed to command respect and fear, much like a legendary monster. Its acid breath is a defense mechanism reminiscent of the destructive powers attributed to some mythological beasts. Then there's the 'Clowney snapper,' a critter that uses sea anemones for protection and even food, showcasing a clever adaptation to its environment—a concept you see in real marine life, but amplified with a fantasy twist. And not all sea dragons have to be fearsome! My 'Goldy scale' sea dragon, for example, is more of a sweet companion. With its flowing fins and gentle demeanor, it's the kind of pet that might eat earthworms and fish food, showing the incredible diversity within this fantastical world.
