Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic skin condition often misunderstood, particularly among Black women who may face heightened stigmatization regarding this disease. Research indicates that HS is not limited to any race; however, the perception that it primarily affects Black women can deter many from seeking necessary medical attention. De-stigmatizing HS involves education on its symptoms, treatments, and the importance of community support. Engaging in wellness journeys that encompass mental, emotional, and physical health can empower Black women. Emphasizing personal health management and lifestyle changes, along with medical guidance, can significantly enhance quality of life. By joining forums and community groups focused on #blackwellness and #hswarrior, individuals can find solidarity and strength in shared experiences. Education, awareness, and open dialogue are key to breaking down barriers and improving the overall health landscape for Black women.
