... Read moreIt’s truly a tough pill to swallow when you realize someone you considered a friend is actually fostering envy or resentment. My son's bravery in sharing his situation really resonated with me, because honestly, I've walked that path too. It’s a recurring theme for many of us, especially as we grow and evolve. From my own journey, I’ve come to understand that envy often stems from a place of insecurity within the other person. When you're making strides, achieving goals, or simply radiating positive energy, it can sometimes highlight what they feel they lack. It’s not about you doing anything wrong; it’s about their internal struggle. This realization helped me shift from feeling hurt to understanding that their reactions are a reflection of themselves, not my worth. So, how do you spot these 'envious' or 'fake friends'? I've learned to watch for a few subtle signs. Do they consistently offer backhanded compliments? Do they diminish your achievements, or quickly change the subject when you share good news? Do they only show up when they need something, but are absent when you need support? Another big one for me is when they gossip about others to you, because chances are, they're doing the same about you to others. Pay attention to how you feel after spending time with them – do you feel drained or uplifted? Your intuition is often your best guide. Dealing with these situations requires a lot of self-love and firm boundaries. I remember a time I felt so guilty for pulling back from a friendship that was clearly draining my energy. But I realized my peace was paramount. Sometimes, a direct, honest conversation can clear the air, but be prepared that it might not always lead to reconciliation. In many cases, I’ve found that simply creating distance is the kindest thing you can do for yourself. You don’t owe anyone your energy, especially if it’s constantly being depleted. This journey of recognizing and navigating toxic friendships is all part of our personal evolution. It’s about learning to protect your high vibrational energy and surrounding yourself with people who genuinely celebrate your wins and lift you up. It’s about understanding that not everyone is meant to come along for every chapter of your life, and that's perfectly okay. Letting go can be painful, but it opens up space for more authentic, supportive connections. Remember, your personal growth is an incredible journey, and you deserve a support system that cherishes that. Trust your gut, honour your feelings, and keep shining, even if it makes some people uncomfortable. Your true tribe will find you.
