The game invites players to embark on a mysterious journey aboard a train that seems to traverse the afterlife, populated by intriguing non-living beings. Unlike many interactive games, your actions are limited to walking and talking, emphasizing the narrative over gameplay complexity. This focused design allows for a deeply emotional and immersive experience, where the story unfolds through beautiful side-scrolling visuals and poignant dialogue. Players can't control the outcome, which adds to the feeling of inevitability and reflection, common themes in stories about life, death, and what lies beyond. The last slide of the game is particularly impactful, sharing a trigger warning due to its emotional weight. The graphic novel style enhances the storytelling, providing a visually compelling backdrop that complements the game's themes of loss, acceptance, and the supernatural. Players interested in interactive stories with rich emotional depth, rather than fast-paced action or puzzles, will find "What Comes After" a memorable title. Additionally, the game resonates with fans of cozy and contemplative gameplay on platforms like the Nintendo Switch, making it a great choice for those seeking narrative-driven experiences. Through its minimalistic controls and complex emotional layers, "What Comes After" challenges traditional gaming by focusing on storytelling and atmosphere. For anyone curious about games that explore profound subjects through interactive narratives, "What Comes After" presents a thoughtful journey that is both simple in gameplay yet deep in meaning. It’s a reminder of how games can be powerful mediums for storytelling, capable of evoking strong feelings and thoughtful reflection on life and the beyond.
