0/10 do not recommend!! I like to try a new seasonal drink each year, so today I tried their Eggnog Latte. Instant regret with the first sip. I like eggnog & it smelled so good, but this latte tastes absolutely disgusting.🤢
... Read moreOkay, so let me tell you more about my disastrous experience with the Starbucks Eggnog Latte this year. Every holiday season, I get so excited to try their special drinks – it’s a little tradition of mine. Usually, I find something I like, or at least something tolerable. But this year’s Eggnog Latte? It was a hard pass, and I mean a really hard pass.
When I first got it, the smell was actually quite promising. It had that warm, spicy, festive aroma that eggnog usually has, which made me even more optimistic. I thought, 'Yes, this is going to be my new holiday favorite!' Boy, was I wrong. The first sip hit me, and it was an immediate turn-off. It wasn't just 'not good' – it was genuinely unpleasant. The primary issue for me was the artificiality. It tasted less like real eggnog and more like a synthetic, overly sweet, almost chemical version of it. The natural creaminess and subtle spice that I adore in traditional eggnog were completely absent. Instead, it was cloyingly sweet, which overpowered any hint of actual eggnog flavor. It also had a weird, somewhat thin texture for a latte that was supposed to be rich and festive. I was hoping for something luxurious and comforting, but what I got was thin, sugary, and oddly flat.
I even tried to give it a second chance, thinking maybe my taste buds were off, but nope. Each subsequent sip confirmed my initial reaction: 0/10, do not recommend. I ended up throwing most of it away, which I rarely do, especially when I’ve spent money on a treat. It really felt like a waste of my hard-earned cash, and honestly, a bit of a holiday spirit dampener!
So, if you’re like me and love a good eggnog, you might be seriously disappointed. If you're craving that holiday feeling in a cup, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. Maybe try making your own at home – there are so many fantastic recipes out there for homemade eggnog lattes where you can control the sweetness and spice, and ensure you're getting that authentic flavor. Or, if you're set on a Starbucks visit, perhaps stick to a classic that’s tried and true for you, like a Peppermint Mocha, or even a simple Caramel Brulée Latte if they have it available. Those usually deliver on flavor and festive cheer without the risk of an artificial taste.
For those who still want to try something new but are wary, my advice is to always ask for fewer pumps of syrup if sweetness is a concern. You can also experiment with different milk options – sometimes almond or oat milk can change the profile significantly. And if you're sensitive to caffeine but still want the warmth of a latte, don't forget you can always ask for decaf shots. Sometimes a small customization can make a huge difference, though in this specific case, I'm not sure anything could have saved the Eggnog Latte for me! But hey, everyone's taste is different, so if you're feeling adventurous, you might have a different experience. Just know what you're getting into, and maybe have a backup drink in mind just in case!
