Dates on food products can be confusing 🫤
So basically there are 4 dates on food products which includes everything from meat to can goods to bread and they are.
•Sell by date
•Use by date
•Best used by date
And none of these are a expiration dates. It is simply the food manufacturers suggested date for peak freshness. So you can use the product 1,2,3 days after the date. However if the label says expiration date that does mean the product is no longer good to use at that point. Hope this helps navigating through grocery dates on packages. #foodie #grocery #cooking #products #dinner
Navigating food product dates can be quite tricky, especially with the varying terminologies used. Expiration dates denote when food is no longer safe to consume, while ‘Best By’ indicates peak freshness without compromising safety even after the date. The ‘Sell By’ date is aimed at retailers as a guideline for stock rotation, and products can usually be consumed a few days beyond these dates as long as there are no signs of spoilage. It’s essential to trust your senses; if food looks, smells, and tastes fine, it’s often safe to eat past the labeled date. Understanding these differences can help you make informed decisions, avoid unnecessary waste, and ensure that you're storing and handling your products correctly. Additionally, consider local food safety regulations, as they can vary by region, and always check for any recalls on products that may affect your safety.
