What I look for in kitchen/culinary shears.

Kitchen shears are for cutting through meat and bone and sometimes vegetables. You can imagine the bacteria that’s just waiting to hide In between the part that connects the shears together. This is why I am very particular when it comes to my choice of shears so this is what I look for.

•Must be one piece construction no extra handle material.

•Must come apart for total cleaning purposes.

•Must be high quality stainless steel (not all stainless steel is the same).

•If it comes apart you can resharpen the blade.

The higher quality shears that are shown do push towards $80-$100 but these also come with a lifetime warranty. For me the choice is clear pay a high price one time for life and have no worries about bacteria. I really hope this helps 🙏😀#kitchen #cooking #dinner #dinnerideas #lemon8foodie

I always look for soft-grip handles or ones that feel natural in my hand, even when I'm cutting through something tough like chicken bones. Some even have a spring-loaded mechanism, which saves my hand from cramping during bigger tasks. It's truly a lifesaver for those long prep sessions! Then there's the blade design. Beyond just being sharp (which is a given!), some shears have micro-serrations on one blade. This little detail helps grip slippery foods like chicken skin or herbs, preventing them from sliding away while you cut. It's a small feature that makes a massive difference in precision and safety. I also love shears that have a built-in bottle opener or nutcracker – talk about multi-tasking! It means one less gadget cluttering my drawers. When it comes to materials, while high-quality stainless steel is my go-to for its corrosion resistance and ease of cleaning, it's worth noting that some premium brands, like All-clad, offer exceptional performance and longevity, often justifying a higher price point. If you're serious about your cooking, investing in a brand known for its craftsmanship can pay off. Just make sure whatever you choose, it's truly rust-resistant, especially if you're frequently washing it. Maintenance is another big one for me. Beyond separating the blades for a thorough wash, I always make sure to dry my shears immediately after rinsing. Leaving them to air dry can lead to water spots or even rust over time, even on good stainless steel. A quick wipe-down and then storing them in a knife block or on a magnetic strip keeps them sharp and ready for action. I also occasionally apply a tiny bit of food-grade mineral oil to the pivot point to keep the action smooth – it really extends their life! Finally, consider your primary uses. If you're mainly snipping herbs, a lighter pair might be fine. But if you're regularly spatchcocking poultry or cutting through tough packaging, you'll definitely want a heavy-duty pair with strong pivot points. Think of them as an extension of your hands – the right pair will make everything in the kitchen feel a little easier, safer, and much more enjoyable!
