grwm to teach second grade! #grwmforschool #schoolgrwm #teachersoflemon8 #teacherlife #teacherlemon8
Beyond just picking out my outfit and grabbing my coffee, my morning routine as a second-grade teacher is all about setting a positive tone for the entire day. It's not always easy to jump straight into 'let's get ready to teach second grade!' with boundless energy, especially when the alarm goes off way too early! But I've learned that a few intentional steps can completely transform my outlook and readiness for the classroom. I’ve found that incorporating a few simple 'positive primers' into my GRWM truly makes a significant difference. First, before even getting out of bed, I try to take a minute for mindful breathing. It’s just 60 seconds of focusing on my breath, which helps clear my head and centers me. Then, I think of one thing I'm genuinely grateful for that day – perhaps a new book we're starting, a fun craft activity planned, or even just the sunshine outside. It’s a small mental shift, but it helps anchor my day on a positive note from the very start. Next up, hydration is key! A big glass of water with a squeeze of lemon is my immediate go-to. It's a quick, refreshing way to wake up my body and feel energized. Following that, it's about a quick, yet nutritious breakfast. I usually opt for something easy and prepped, like overnight oats with berries or a protein-packed smoothie I can whip up in minutes. Fueling my body properly means I have the sustained energy to keep up with lively second graders, manage busy activities, and be fully present all day long. When it comes to getting dressed, I always make sure to pick an outfit that makes me feel both confident and comfortable. Being comfortable is absolutely crucial when you're moving around the classroom, kneeling to help little ones, demonstrating lessons, and constantly interacting. Looking presentable also subtly boosts my own mood and sets a professional yet approachable example for my students. Another 'primer' I swear by is a quick review of my lesson plan for the first hour. Just a brief mental run-through of the morning's activities – what we’re starting with, key learning objectives, and any materials I need – helps me feel incredibly prepared and reduces any last-minute jitters. This proactive check allows me to anticipate and address potential challenges before they arise, ensuring a smooth start to the school day. I also make it a habit to pack my lunch and snacks the night before. This little step saves precious morning time and guarantees I have healthy, satisfying options throughout the day, preventing that dip in energy often caused by unhealthy snacks. Finally, before I walk out the door, I take a moment to visualize a successful and joyful day. I imagine my students engaged, excited about learning, and interacting positively with each other. This mental rehearsal helps me arrive at school with a calm, enthusiastic, and positive demeanor, ready to embrace whatever the day brings. These little positive primers aren't just for my personal well-being; they contribute directly to the positive, nurturing, and dynamic learning environment I strive to create for my second graders. By getting myself ready – not just physically, but mentally and emotionally – I can truly enjoy teaching and connect deeply with my students, making every school day a little bit brighter and more effective for all of us.
