Hi lemon8!🍋
My name is Taylor Joyce and I have curly hair but it never used to look good. I wanna help and show others with curly hair that your hair is beautiful to wear it naturally!
Hey curlfriends! 👋 So many of you have asked me about my journey to loving my natural curls, and trust me, it wasn't an overnight thing. For years, I battled frizz, struggled with definition, and honestly, just wanted to straighten my hair every single day. I felt like my curls were unruly and unmanageable, and it really affected my confidence. I remember countless mornings staring in the mirror, feeling frustrated and wondering why my hair just wouldn't 'behave.' But over time, something shifted. I realized it wasn't my hair that was the problem; it was my approach to it. I started diving deep into understanding curly hair science, experimenting with different products and techniques, and most importantly, I learned to truly appreciate the unique beauty of my natural texture. It became less about fighting my curls and more about nurturing them. As your comfort curly hair girlie, I'm so excited to share some of the biggest game-changers for me, hoping they help you on your own curl journey! My Top Tips for a Happy Curl Day: Hydration is Key! Curly hair is naturally drier than straight hair, so moisture is your best friend. Look for sulfate-free shampoos and rich, hydrating conditioners. I also swear by a good leave-in conditioner applied to soaking wet hair – it locks in moisture and helps with detangling. Gentle Detangling. Never brush dry curly hair! Always detangle when your hair is wet and coated with conditioner, using your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Start from the ends and work your way up to avoid breakage. This made a huge difference in reducing frizz for me. The 'Squish to Condish' Method. This technique is a lifesaver for curl definition! After applying conditioner, add a little extra water to your hair and gently 'squish' it upwards towards your scalp. You'll hear a squishing sound, which means your hair is absorbing the water and conditioner, creating beautiful curl clumps. Rinse lightly, leaving some conditioner in. Styling Products for Hold & Definition. Once conditioned, apply your styling products to wet hair. A good curl cream will provide moisture and clumping, while a gel or mousse will give you hold and definition. Experiment with different application methods – raking, praying hands, or scrunching – to see what works best for your curl pattern. Drying without Damage. Air drying is great, but if you need to speed things up, a diffuser attachment on your hairdryer is a must. Use low heat and low speed, gently cradling sections of your hair in the diffuser. Avoid touching your hair too much while it's drying to prevent frizz. Once completely dry, you can 'scrunch out the crunch' from your gel cast for soft, bouncy curls. Protect Your Curls at Night. To preserve your curls and prevent frizz overnight, try sleeping on a silk pillowcase or wrapping your hair in a silk/satin bonnet. This reduces friction and keeps your curls intact for the next day. Sometimes, I just loosely pineapple my hair on top of my head! It's truly amazing how much confidence I gained once I started embracing my natural hair. It’s a process, and some days will be better than others, but remember: your curls are beautiful and unique to you! Don’t be afraid to experiment and find what works for your hair. You've got this, and I'm here to cheer you on every step of the way!
