When I say 'I had me a boy and turned him into a man,' it's not about changing who he fundamentally is, but witnessing the beautiful growth and maturity that happens when two people commit to building a life together. We started off just enjoying each other's company, like that sweet moment standing by the Christmas tree, him in his familiar plaid shirt, me with my braided hair, totally smitten. We were just two kids in love, figuring things out. The path wasn't always smooth, of course. Every relationship has its moments of learning and compromise. We learned to communicate better, to truly listen, and to celebrate our differences – even our height difference, which always makes for funny moments and the best hugs! It's about respecting each other's individuality while growing together as a unit. For us, navigating those early years meant a lot of honest conversations and showing up for each other, no matter what. Then came the proposal, the planning, and that magical day I walked down the aisle in my white dress, holding my beautiful floral bouquet, seeing him waiting there in his suit. Putting on that wedding ring, with my manicured nails, felt like the culmination of everything we had worked for, a promise sealed forever. Married life is a whole new adventure, full of shared dreams, inside jokes, and unwavering support. It's about building a home, creating traditions, and cherishing the everyday moments. We often get asked how we keep the spark alive, or what our 'secret' is. Honestly, it's not a secret, but a conscious effort. It's about choosing each other every single day, even on the tough ones. It's celebrating our black love story, knowing the strength and beauty in our connection. We prioritize quality time, whether it's a date night or just cuddling on the couch. We make sure to check in with each other, to appreciate the small gestures, and to always remind ourselves why we fell in love in the first place. Our journey from dating a 'boy' to now sharing life with my incredible husband has taught me so much about love, patience, and partnership. It truly is a crazy, beautiful ride, and I wouldn't have it any other way. If you're currently navigating your own relationship, remember to cherish the growth, embrace the challenges, and never stop nurturing that special bond. Every couple's journey is unique, but the foundation of love, respect, and commitment is universal.
