Proper singing posture involves more than just standing up straight—it’s about aligning your body to allow for optimal breath support and vocal resonance. A good starting point is to stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, distributing your weight evenly to avoid tension. Keep your knees slightly bent, not locked, to maintain flexibility and avoid stiffness. Your chest should be lifted slightly to open your ribcage, which helps with deeper breathing, while your shoulders remain relaxed and down to prevent strain. Another important aspect is neck and head position. Your chin should be parallel to the floor with your neck elongated, as this alignment allows your vocal cords to function without unnecessary pressure. In my experience, practicing singing in front of a mirror helps you become aware of any slouching or tension you might not feel otherwise. Over time, these posture basics became second nature, leading to increased vocal control and endurance during performances. Whether you’re a beginner or working with a vocal coach, mastering these fundamental posture techniques will set a strong foundation for more advanced singing skills.
