Getting your book on bookshelves
So this process was completely different then anything else that I had done up to this point because It took me from behind the computer and my phone and put me face to face with the possibility of rejection.
I had two local indie bookstores I wanted to get my on the shelves.
A popular one in the larger city that I live close to
And a smaller local one that's in my town
Each store had its own process to get indie books on the shelf the larger one requires filling out a form and And then they'll evaluate a copy that you drop off or mail to them before they decide whether or not they'll allow you to be in their bookstore. They also will not accept your book if you are only published through Amazon. I.e I had to put my books on IngramSpark. Something that I had considered and gone back and forth to begin with anyway.
When I called my local bookstore I assumed the process would be similar. . . I fill something out, And then they evaluate. A reason that made me drag my feet calling them.
However what I called them, they told me to bring down two copies, they'll put it in there local author section, and pay me the 60/40 split right out the gate. 🤪
What I didn't consider is the local bookstore buys and sells books so it was already common for them to buy books to resale in their store.
Now me and my lots of friend have our books on a bookshelf 😊 Long story short every bookstore is different and just because one may give you the runaround doesn't mean another one will.
Do you have a story about getting your book or your favorite author's book at your local bookstore?
