Surgery Journey
Back in 2017, I lost my mother to cancer. It was recommended that I test for the same gene mutation she had, so I did. It came back positive for brca2, making my risk of getting breast cancer very high. It was recommended that I get imaging done routinely to stay on top of things, or get a double mastectomy to drop the chance down to around 3%. I am now 26 soon to be 27 and finally decided to do the double mastectomy with reconstruction after a few scares. It hasn't been a fun recovery process, and it's not a "free boob job". I will say I don't regret it due to having such a higher chance of living a longer, healthier life, and seeing my body look mostly normal now (it'll be even better once the tissue expanders are out and silicone implants are placed.) has helped me mentally. I am really looking forward to going bra shopping and having a girl's day once it's all done since I haven't bought any new ones in years and being a different size now gives me the perfect excuse. Overall, it was worth it, and the worst part is over!
