The most devastating EF5 category has winds exceeding 200 mph and can level homes, scour the ground clean, and leave nothing standing. I recall reading about the Bridge Creek-Moore tornado of 1999, which recorded the fastest wind speed ever measured at 302 mph. Such powerful tornadoes are rare—only 59 EF5 tornadoes have been confirmed historically—but when they strike, the destruction is catastrophic. This understanding is not only academic but practical.
