Stop Saying These Things

2024/9/3 Edited to

... Read moreHave you ever caught yourself saying things that just instantly drain your energy or make a situation feel even worse? I know I have! It’s like we sometimes unknowingly speak negativity, or what some call 'death phrases,' right into our own lives. This concept really hit home for me, especially after seeing how much impact our words truly have, spiritually and practically. The graphic mentioned in the original post, with its 'Stop Saying These Things!' message, really resonated. It’s not just about being optimistic; it’s about understanding the profound 'power of the tongue.' As Proverbs 18:21 reminds us, 'Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.' That verse changed my perspective entirely. It’s a powerful 'DAILY REMINDER' that our words aren't just sounds; they're seeds. So, what exactly are these 'negative phrases' or 'death phrases' we should stop speaking over ourselves? They can be subtle, like: 'I'm always so unlucky.' 'I can never get anything right.' 'This is just how my life is, it won't change.' 'I'm not good enough for that.' 'What's the point? It's impossible.' 'Things always go wrong for me.' These aren't just innocent complaints; they are declarations that, over time, can shape our reality and our mindset. They steal our joy and can even prevent us from trying new things or pursuing our dreams. When we keep 'speaking death over ourselves' through these kinds of statements, we inadvertently create a self-fulfilling prophecy. Learning to break free from this pattern has been a journey, but here's what has genuinely helped me: 1. Become Aware: The first step is simply noticing! Pay attention to your internal monologue and what you say out loud. When you hear a 'death phrase,' just acknowledge it without judgment. My journal became my best friend for this; writing down those thoughts made them less powerful. 2. Challenge the Thought: Is it really true that you're always unlucky? Or that you can never get anything right? Often, these are exaggerations born from frustration or past experiences. Remind yourself of times you were lucky or did succeed. 3. Replace with Life-Giving Words: This is crucial. Instead of 'I can't do this,' try 'I'm learning how to do this, and I'll keep trying.' Instead of 'It's impossible,' try 'It might be challenging, but I'm capable of finding a solution.' Actively 'praying for joy' and speaking positive affirmations can transform your outlook. Even small shifts make a huge difference. 4. Seek Positive Input: What you consume influences what you speak. Surround yourself with uplifting content, inspiring people, and scripture that builds you up. This helps fill your mind with 'wisdom' and positive alternatives to those negative thought patterns. 5. Practice Patience and Grace: You won't eliminate all negative phrases overnight, and that's okay! Be kind to yourself. Every time you catch one and consciously choose a different word, you're making progress. It’s about building a new habit. By consciously choosing to stop speaking death over ourselves and embracing the 'power of the tongue' for good, we literally start to transform our lives. I’ve noticed more peace, more opportunities, and definitely more joy. This daily reminder isn't just a suggestion; it's an invitation to a more vibrant, hopeful existence. Let's choose life-giving words today! ✨
