Dr. King spent a better part of his last days fighting for us to live freely in our own skin as so it was for others. To dedicate yourself to a mission so astounding, to say "he's noble" would be an understatement.. especially considering that he had his own family who needed his attention. Yet, somehow, he still managed to show up for our culture, never uttering a word of complaint or of regret.
This day comes around once a year, and we may bring him up a few times throughout the year, as racially challenged catastrophes arise and shake our nation, but we still dont do enough. We yell, and we march, and we raise outrageous amounts of awareness that eventually end up being echoed through a few small voices that refuse to rest. As a collective, we could put more thought behind our actions; strive to be an example of the things he fought so tirelessly for and do a lot less complaining about how unfairly we are treated as a race. Yes, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a man of many words, but his actions spoke louder.
So between this day of remembrance and the next, make a solid effort to do something that evens the playing fields around yourself -- and others. Get up! Execute a plan for your goals that turn your dreams into your reality.
