this memoir will stick with me forever
I was living in Portland Oregon, where Strayed ends her life changing hike of the pacific crest trail, when I discovered this memoir. The friend I was living with was completely shocked I hadn’t read it before. After picking it up I sat down on the 4th of July and read the entire book cover to cover. I could not put it down!
I had to find out what happened, as pretty much everything that could go wrong on a hike went wrong for her. The story is perfectly executed, dropping you into high stakes adventures in the wilderness, then taking you off the trail and into her past to understand why she took such drastic measures to heal. After I finished the book, my friend and I spent the evening watching the movie adaptation staring Reece Witherspoon, which is now a movie I watch every 4th of July.
