this memoir will stick with me forever

I was living in Portland Oregon, where Strayed ends her life changing hike of the pacific crest trail, when I discovered this memoir. The friend I was living with was completely shocked I hadn’t read it before. After picking it up I sat down on the 4th of July and read the entire book cover to cover. I could not put it down!

I had to find out what happened, as pretty much everything that could go wrong on a hike went wrong for her. The story is perfectly executed, dropping you into high stakes adventures in the wilderness, then taking you off the trail and into her past to understand why she took such drastic measures to heal. After I finished the book, my friend and I spent the evening watching the movie adaptation staring Reece Witherspoon, which is now a movie I watch every 4th of July.

... Read moreCheryl Strayed's "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail" is not just a memoir; it's an inspiring story of healing and self-discovery. Strayed's tale details her journey through grief and loss, as she navigates the formidable trail, facing both physical and emotional challenges. This book beautifully interweaves high-stakes adventure with moments of vulnerability, creating a rich tapestry that resonates with readers. Throughout the narrative, readers are pulled into Strayed's complex backstory, understanding how her past shaped her decision to embark on this challenging hike. The vivid descriptions of nature's raw beauty contrast with her inner struggles, drawing you into her world. Each misadventure on the trail serves as a metaphor for overcoming life's obstacles, making her story deeply relatable. The memoir's powerful themes of resilience and self-acceptance have struck a chord with many readers, leading it to become a modern classic, recognized as a New York Times bestseller. Its influence extends beyond the page, culminating in a successful film adaptation that has further expanded its reach, introducing Strayed's journey to an even broader audience. For those looking to dive into a book that offers both adventure and profound personal insight, "Wild" is a must-read. Its ability to inspire courage and introspection ensures it remains impactful long after the final page is turned.
