fitness… what’s the hype? 💪🏻

hello all!!

happy hump day! 🐫 today’s been another very busy day of packing for me, so let’s talk about anything other than that; something i like more… fitness! 😅 one more thought about packing a box might make my head explode

so, what is fitness? the official definition is, “the condition of being physically fit and healthy”, but that still doesn’t answer the question… what EXACTLY is fitness? fitness, to me, is subjective, as everybody’s baseline state of physicality/health is different. i believe that exercise in general constitutes as fitness, as long as you’re doing something you’re physically capable of!

now, why are people so in on going to the gym, becoming “gym rats”, toned, huge, etc.? fitness has become more of a fad and a trendy part of people’s lifestyles, but there are also those who utilize fitness as an actual mode of improving quality of life. for example, i am happy and healthy, but have never been the most confident in my body or appearance. the feeling i get leaving the gym is almost euphoric; i feel so fulfilled and so confident about the work i invested into myself.

my favorite thing to work is legs but MANNN do i love a good back and bi workout. these pics are just some progress pics over the last few months since i started going consistently! also, quick shoutout to my boyfriend for being such an encouraging workout buddy and set-builder. 🥰

so, i guess i do get the hype… the gym has become a safe space for me, and i’m thankful for the little spot it has in my life today. 🤍 what are your guys’ opinions on fitness/the gym?

One of the best ways I found to explore different workout styles without breaking the bank is through free YouTube workouts. Seriously, there's a whole world of trainers and programs out there! When I first started, I wasn't sure what exercises I enjoyed, so I'd try various strength training routines, dance fitness, and even yoga flows right from my living room. Channels like 'Blogilates' or 'Popsugar Fitness' can be fantastic resources. They're perfect for discovering what kind of movement makes you feel good and confident, and you can even find entire free YouTube workout programs designed to guide you through weeks of training. It’s super accessible and a great way to build up consistency before committing to a gym membership. Once you get into a rhythm, you might start thinking about more structured training. Many of you might be wondering about the best training split for fat loss or muscle gain, and honestly, it depends on your schedule and preferences! Personally, I love working my legs, but I've also experimented with different splits. A common one is an upper/lower split, where you dedicate separate days to upper body and lower body, allowing muscles to recover. Full-body workouts 2-3 times a week are also incredibly effective, especially for beginners. The key is to challenge yourself progressively and listen to your body. These structured routines really help in seeing tangible progress, which is a huge motivator for feeling fulfilled and seeing your body transform. And let's not forget about cardio! While I love lifting, a well-rounded fitness routine includes cardiovascular health. Beyond traditional running or cycling, there are other great options. Have you ever considered a mini stepper? They're surprisingly effective for a low-impact cardio workout at home, perfect for those days you can't make it to the gym or if you want to add some extra steps while watching TV. I've heard great things about their benefits for toning legs and glutes! Another aspect of cardio that's gaining popularity is Zone 2 cardio. It might sound technical, but it's essentially exercising at a moderate intensity where you can still hold a conversation, but it's challenging enough that you wouldn't want to sing. Think a brisk walk, a light jog, or steady-state cycling. The benefits of Zone 2 cardio are incredible for improving your endurance, metabolic health, and overall cardiovascular system. It's not about pushing yourself to exhaustion, but rather building a solid foundation for your heart and overall health. Incorporating even 30-45 minutes of Zone 2 cardio a few times a week can make a huge difference in how you feel, both physically and mentally, contributing to that sense of overall health and well-being I mentioned earlier. Ultimately, fitness is about finding what brings you joy, makes you feel strong, and contributes to your overall health and happiness. Whether it's lifting heavy, trying a new YouTube dance routine, or enjoying a brisk walk on your mini stepper, every step counts on your unique journey to a more confident and fulfilled you!
