settling into my apartment
hello all,
i know i’d said yesterday that i’d write up a longer post talking about my move and furnishing my new apartment, but i am so exhausted and have been up all day, so i’ll be having the night to myself with a movie! :)
remember, social media can be fun, but it doesn’t have to be neat, “perfect”, aesthetic, or consistent. take time for yourselves when you need it. <3

Wow, that initial move-in exhaustion is SO real, isn't it? It’s completely okay to hit pause and prioritize 'me time' when settling into a new space. I totally get it – sometimes the vision of a perfectly furnished apartment clashes with the reality of endless boxes and sheer tiredness! But trust me, making your new apartment feel like home is a journey, not a sprint. And guess what? It can be an enjoyable one, even with the chaos. I remember when I first moved into my current place, I had grand plans to unpack everything in a weekend. Spoiler alert: that didn't happen! What I learned the hard way (so you don't have to!) is to tackle it strategically. First things first, focus on the essentials. Get your bedroom and bathroom set up immediately. Having a comfortable, clean bed to fall into at the end of a long day is a game-changer. Same for a functional bathroom – you'll thank yourself later. Next, think about creating those little pockets of comfort. Don't wait until every single box is unpacked to make a space feel like *yours*. I started by setting up my coffee station with my favorite mug, even if the rest of the kitchen was still a mess. I also put up some string lights in my living room – instant cozy vibes! Small personal touches, like a framed photo or a favorite blanket, can make a huge difference in transforming an unfamiliar space into a welcoming sanctuary. This is all part of the 'Settling In me time' philosophy: making your environment nurture you, not just exist around you. Establishing a new routine is also key. It helps ground you when everything else feels new. Figure out your local grocery store, a nearby coffee shop, or even just a nice park for a walk. Getting out and exploring, even for short bursts, can help you feel more connected to your new surroundings. When it comes to furnishing and decorating, my biggest piece of advice is: take your time! Unless you have an unlimited budget and a team of movers, it's rare to get everything perfect from day one. I've been slowly adding pieces to my apartment over months, finding things that truly fit my style and budget. Don't feel pressured by social media to have an 'insta-perfect' home immediately. It's much more rewarding to curate a space you genuinely love, one piece at a time. This slower approach actually frees up more of that precious 'me time' because you're not constantly rushing or stressing. And speaking of 'me time,' don't forget why you're taking it! Moving is stressful, both physically and mentally. Whether it’s unwinding with a movie like I did, enjoying a long bath, reading a book, or just sitting in silence with a cup of tea, schedule it in. These moments are crucial for recharging your batteries and helping you process the big change. Remember, a happy home starts with a happy you. So, while you're busy turning your new apartment into a dream space, make sure you're also taking care of the most important inhabitant: you!

Congratulations on your new place! It’s an amazing feeling to have something you worked so hard for. Don’t feel like you need to get everything at once, take your time and find good deals!
