my recent playlists - week 1
hello all!!
i just realized it’s been just over a week since i started posting on lemon8!! 🍋🎉 i’m so happy to be here and to have made y’all happy through my “content”.
anyways… i was just scrolling through spotify and realized i listened to a few different playlists throughout the week, and i thought this would be a fun way to share what i’ve been listenin’ to! as an avid music lover and musician, i’m always trying to discover artists that i’ve never listened to before, so i enjoy a pretty wide range of music. i figured it would also be cool to give the gist of the playlist and why i listened to it this week… new journal prompt unlocked! 🔓
(and yes, that is me on the cover 😂 circa 2012 backstage at a concert and i unfortunately don’t remember the bands 😔)
welcome to week 1 of my recent playlists! 🎶🍋🎙️
1. ) it was the summer of ‘24
• random mesh of songs that have stuck with me over this summer so far
• allllllll the genres
• been my go-to recently since i put all my faves in there regularly!
2.) i am a senior in college…
• bittersweet vibes, growth, fears, etc.
• senioritis part 2
3.) I AM A SENIOR IN COLLEGE!!!
• motivating vibes, excitement
• as much as i’m excited for the school year to start again later this month, it still kinda bums me out. so, listening to some hype music could neverrrr do me wrong!
4.) rough
• breaking benjamin, get scared, and more… even some older alt bangers like “Dead!” by My Chemical Romance is on here; kind of an interesting mix but it works because they all have heavy percussion
• i love listening to the drumming patterns and pick them out by ear to practice the song on my own kit so i can learn more music and progress my skill!! i <3 drumming
5.) my silly little shenanigans
• “i love college” vibes but not in the academic way, more like the chill kickbacks with friends and there is maybe some gardening 🍃 going on 🤣
• my girls and i listened to this when we had our first girls night in my new apartment to celebrate the move-in!
6.) PTV NA Tour 2024 Setlist
• i make setlist playlists for every concert i go to and have one made for almost every concert i remember going to from when i was younger and didn’t keep much track. this just really is diverse in sound and i love PTV so this is an easy non-skip playlist.
• once i go to a concert, to avoid the PCD (post-concert depression 😭), i either intentionally or unintentionally go on a two-week listening bender of the setlist or that artist after the show. i just saw them on the 18th, so it’s still fresh in my memory 😩
7.) rep book
• self-explanatory. i’m a psych major, theatre minor at my college and this is where i keep all the songs (and instrumentals i can find) that i use for auditions, testing my range, etc.
• with the school year starting soon, i figure it’s never too early to start warming up the voice and preparing for audition season to roll in!
wheeeeeew that was a lot longer than i thought it would be. oh well! it was fun to write, so i hope it’s even more fun to read! i’m lookin forward to posting week 2 of this little segment next week on sunday! i put my spotify profile link in my bio if you wanted to check any of these out. :)

Music has always been more than just background noise for me; it's a soundtrack to life, a memory keeper, and a constant source of inspiration. That's why I love curating playlists that capture specific moments, moods, or musical journeys. This past week has been a whirlwind, and my music choices definitely reflect that. It’s fascinating how a collection of songs can tell a story, marking the progression of days and emotions. I find immense joy in the process of music discovery. Whether it's stumbling upon a new artist, revisiting an old favorite, or intentionally seeking out tracks that fit a certain vibe, my playlists are always evolving. For instance, creating a playlist that's a 'random mesh of songs' from the summer so far allows me to document the season's unfolding, holding onto those fleeting good feelings. It's my personal audio diary! Then there are those times when life throws big changes your way, like heading into senior year of college. I found myself needing two very different playlists for that – one for the bittersweet reflection and growth, acknowledging the fears and exciting uncertainties, and another filled with pure hype music to fuel motivation and excitement for what's ahead. It really helps to switch between these two depending on what kind of mental boost I need throughout the day. Beyond personal reflection, music is also a tool for skill development. As a drummer, I’m always listening for intricate percussion patterns in songs, even in genres I might not typically gravitate towards. A playlist focused on tracks with 'heavy percussion' becomes an invaluable practice tool, helping me break down drumming techniques and expand my own repertoire. It's not just about enjoying the song, but actively learning from it. And then, for more formal pursuits, like auditioning for theatre, having a 'rep book' playlist with songs and instrumentals ready to go is crucial. It’s about being prepared and having all my vocal and instrumental practice pieces organized in one easy-to-access place, especially with audition season approaching. Music also plays a huge role in my social life. There's nothing quite like a 'silly little shenanigans' playlist to set the mood for a chill kickback with friends, perhaps even a bit of gardening! These are the playlists that become the backdrop to new memories, like the first girls' night in my new apartment. And for concert-goers, the struggle of post-concert depression (PCD) is real. My solution? Curating a setlist playlist for every show I attend. It allows me to relive the energy and excitement, extending the concert experience long after the final encore. It's a fantastic way to keep the music alive and revisit those incredible live moments. So, whether you're building a soundtrack for your life's big moments, honing a musical skill, or just sharing good vibes with friends, there's a playlist for every occasion. Try creating your own and see what stories your music tells!
