Attending the 1st Vente Venezuela USA Convention in Washington, D.C. was a powerful experience for many Venezuelans living abroad. Coming together from over 21 U.S. cities, we shared a common vision: to restore democracy and freedom in our homeland. Led by María Corina Machado, a prominent figure in the movement, we discussed actionable steps to tackle the challenges posed by years of tyranny and political instability in Venezuela. What struck me most was the unwavering determination of the Venezuelan diaspora. Each participant brought unique perspectives and expertise, demonstrating that our community is not just scattered but highly organized and ready to contribute to meaningful change. We emphasized the importance of unity and the role of international solidarity in amplifying our voices. The convention wasn’t just a meeting; it was a declaration that Venezuelans abroad continue to be deeply invested in rebuilding the nation. Efforts discussed included fostering democratic values, advocating for human rights, and supporting economic recovery plans. This experience reinforced my belief that diaspora communities can play a critical role in supporting their countries politically and socially. While distance separates us physically, our commitment to Venezuela’s future remains strong. The hashtags #Venezuela, #FullDemocracy, and #VenteVenezuela symbolize this shared mission and inspire ongoing activism. For anyone following Venezuela’s struggle or interested in diaspora activism, this event illustrates how organized communities abroad can effect change. Being part of such a committed group made me hopeful that Venezuela will overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger, with freedom and democracy restored.
