Living in Venezuela today is undeniably challenging. The persistent economic and social hardships have pushed citizens into a daily battle to preserve their dignity amid scarcity and instability. From my personal experience and many shared stories, the hope for a society built on honest effort and merit remains a powerful driving force for many Venezuelans. I have witnessed neighbors and friends who, despite limited resources, continue to strive tirelessly to maintain their families and pursue their dreams. The notion of gaining a dignified life ‘a punta de trabajo y honestidad’ (through hard work and honesty) reflects a deep cultural value and resilience. However, systemic issues such as inflation, political instability, and lack of adequate infrastructure make achieving this ideal extremely difficult. Yet, the spirit of the people shines through. Community initiatives, mutual support networks, and a collective yearning for change highlight the social fabric’s strength. The question posed—whether the model of a free, meritocratic Venezuela is possible today—invites reflection on both the obstacles and the potential paths forward. While the situation is complex, conversations like María Corina Machado’s invoke awareness and mobilize action focused on rebuilding a nation where dignity is accessible to all. In my view, the journey toward freedom and dignity is ongoing and requires both individual perseverance and systemic transformation. Sharing these experiences broadens understanding and keeps hope alive for a future Venezuela that honors the labor and honesty of its people.
