Book name: if We Ever Meet Again

Author: Ana Huang

Genre: Romance

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Review:

I really like when a book makes the two protagonist make a connection with each other first before they jump into a relationship and this book is exactly it. They played off like they annoyed each other when really they had a huge desire for one another like they were meant to be together It almost felt like Blake and Farrah was love at first sight in a way. They hit it off right away like they had a deep connection, but didn’t want to show it to one another.

Blake seems like a super dirty playboy, but with Farrah it’s far different. He’s afraid to pursue anything with Farrah because of what happened to his past. And also that Farrah is a virgin, he’s definitely afraid to pursue anything with her. Farrah is the type of girl to open her life up for someone that has a deep connection with. Almost like she is guarding herself because of a past with a relationship.

Now I can see why he in a way left his family; Blake’s father can be emotionally and mentally abusive. Forcing a child to live the life you never had. Blake’s family never had faith in him in any plans he had with his future. The only time his family supported him was when he played football and he didn’t care about it. When Blake was aware of his mentor passing away from pass football injuries; Blake made the choice to leave football to protect him self physically. I love that for him actually, he stood up to his family and left the dream that they wanted.

I love how they had a fight about their jealousy over each other by telling each other their personal secrets. On how Farrah wanted to climb The Great Wall because that was her father’s dream and how Blake’s relationship with his family fell after his departure from the NFL. That in a way formed their relationship to go further. I love how Farrah’s choice to be in China was for her father. Before his passing, Farrah mention that he always wanted to walk the whole Great Wall. And she feels like she accomplished that goal to be closer to him after her regret on what she said to her father before he passed and that hit home honestly.

It’s sad on how things had to go towards the end of their relationship but in a way, I kinda expected it. Nothing is perfect and there would’ve been an end to every fairytale sadly. Blake technically wasn’t lying about going back to his ex, after the news he got from her, but I didn’t understand why he lied about being in love with Farrah. Was it so that the he broke her trust that much so that breaking up would he easier? I’m not surprised that he drunkenly hooked up with his ex because you can tell that his ex wanted him back and they were both drunk and hooked up. Sadly Blake was too drunk to remember every step that happened and to put a stop to what happened.

Overall I think this was a good book to read. About to hit the second book to see where Blake and Farrah relationship lands!

... Read moreAna Huang’s "If We Ever Meet Again" is more than just a typical romance novel; it dives deep into the intricate emotional journeys of its protagonists, Blake and Farrah. What makes this story stand out is how the author crafts a believable connection between the main characters before allowing their romance to blossom. Unlike many romance stories where love seems instant, this book presents a nuanced take on how attraction can be hidden behind playful irritation and guarded hearts. Blake’s character development is particularly compelling. He initially appears to be a typical charming playboy, yet Ana Huang reveals layers of vulnerability rooted in his troubled family background and the physical and emotional toll of his football career. His decision to leave football to protect himself physically demonstrates his strength and self-respect, defying family expectations and toxic dynamics. Such complexity adds realism, making readers empathize with his hesitation to fully open up to Farrah. Similarly, Farrah’s guarded nature stems from her own past experiences, and her journey to fulfill her late father’s dream of walking the Great Wall of China adds emotional depth. This element not only enriches her character but also symbolizes her desire to find closure and connection beyond her romantic life. The setting in China offers a unique backdrop that elevates the story beyond a standard romance, intertwining cultural and personal aspirations. The conflict arising from jealousy and secrets adds another layer to their evolving relationship, showing that love isn’t without challenges. The heartbreaking ending, while expected by some readers, realistically portrays the imperfections in relationships, reminding us that even the most passionate connections face trials. For readers seeking a romance with emotional authenticity and complex characters, "If We Ever Meet Again" provides a rich narrative that balances tenderness, conflict, and growth. Ana Huang’s writing resonates with fans of contemporary romance who appreciate a story that honors the complexities of love and family ties. This book is perfect for those who enjoy romantic stories that are as much about personal healing as about finding love. It is also an excellent pick for anyone interested in contemporary novels featuring cultural elements like the Great Wall of China as a metaphor for personal journeys and connections.

This book is absolutely amazing. Maya Angelou’s early life was truly one worth writing about. She eloquently writes of the duality of women and the lives our grandmothers were forced to live. Having a child at 17, receiving the assistance of her mother and shortly after taking full custody. May
