Hey everyone! 👋 You guys know how much I love experimenting with my locs, and sometimes the best styles happen by pure accident. That’s exactly what happened with my latest obsession: this amazing bow bun! I was just trying to do a quick messy bun, and my locs just perfectly shaped themselves into this adorable bow. It truly felt like a 'New Loc Style' moment, and I'm totally here for it! That little happy accident got me thinking a lot about versatile loc styles, especially those that give you that chic, put-together look without a ton of effort. And what came to mind immediately were loc headband styles! Whether you're looking to add a pop of color, keep your locs out of your face, or just elevate an everyday look, headbands are total game-changers for loc’d hair. Let’s dive into some of my favorite ways to rock headbands with locs, inspired by how my own locs can create a 'headband' effect, like my bow bun. You don't always need a physical headband to get that vibe! First, there’s the Classic Wide Headband Wrap. This is my absolute go-to for days when I need something quick but stylish. I love using silk or satin headbands because they’re gentle on my locs and help prevent frizz. You can wear it over your locs, pushing them back from your face, or even slightly under for a more relaxed, bohemian feel. It’s perfect for covering up a less-than-perfect hair day or adding a splash of personality with a vibrant print. I’ve found that a good quality, stretchy headband stays in place without putting too much tension on my edges, which is super important for loc health. Next up, Headbands with Updos or Buns. This is where my bow bun really shines as an inspiration! You can create a simple high bun, a low chignon, or even a messy ponytail, and then simply slide a decorative headband around it. For a look similar to my bow bun, you can gather your locs into a high ponytail, then split the ponytail into two sections. Loop each section to form the 'bow' shape, securing with pins, and let the ends fall or tuck them in. Then, you can add a thin headband under the bow for extra security and sparkle, or let the locs themselves be the star of the show. It’s a great way to add an elegant touch for a night out or even just to feel a bit more polished on a casual day. Sometimes I’ll even twist a few locs around the base of my bun, making a natural 'loc headband' before adding the bow. Another fun option is Headbands with Braids or Twists. If you're someone who loves to braid or twist your locs, a headband can really complement these styles. I like to do cornrows or flat twists in the front sections of my hair and then wear a wider headband over the top. It highlights the intricate work of the braids while keeping everything neat and tidy. It’s practical for workouts, but also super chic for a day out with friends. Experiment with different colors and textures of headbands to match your outfit or mood! And finally, the ultimate creative approach: Using Your Locs as the Headband. This is what my bow bun discovery truly embodies! Beyond the bow, you can take a section of locs from one side of your head, gently lay it across your crown like a headband, and secure it with a bobbi pin behind your ear on the other side. You can even braid or twist that section of locs first for a more textured 'headband.' It’s a fantastic way to achieve a unique, elegant look without buying any extra accessories. It really maximizes the versatility of your locs and shows off their length and beauty. So, whether you're using a fabric headband or crafting a 'loc headband' like my bow bun, there are endless possibilities to elevate your loc style. Don't be afraid to experiment, try new things, and let your creativity flow! I’d love to see what loc headband styles you guys come up with. Share your pics and inspire me too!
