I Live Like I Am Young

I’m a Medicare card carrying senior citizen, but I don’t live like one. I travel far and wide. I dance like nobody is watching. I do crazy silly things with my gaggle of gal pals. I still have a lot of life n me and I’m going to squeeze every drop out of it. Yes, my hair is white, I have some wrinkles, and my chestacles have given in to the pull of gravity, but I don’t feel old. I’m in my La dolce Vita years and loving it.

I often get asked, “How do you do it?” and truthfully, it’s a mix of mindset and active choices. It's about deciding, as that elegant woman in the picture says, that you're not old, you're simply '25 plus shipping and handling.' One of the biggest joys in my life is staying active. When I talk about dancing like nobody’s watching, I mean it! Whether it's a spontaneous shuffle in the living room, a community line dance class, or even just putting on my favorite tunes and moving, physical activity keeps both my body and spirit feeling light. It doesn't have to be strenuous; even a brisk walk with my gal pals around the park can be a fantastic way to keep moving and connect. We’ve even started exploring different local trails, turning exercise into mini-adventures right in our own backyard. Then there’s the travel! I truly believe that new experiences keep us young. You don't need a huge budget to see the world. I've found incredible joy in group tours designed for seniors – they handle the logistics, and I get to meet fascinating people. From charming small towns a few hours away to international adventures, every trip broadens my perspective and fills my memory bank. Planning these trips, looking up hidden gems, and experiencing different cultures is a thrill that constantly reminds me there’s so much more to see and do. Maintaining my circle of ‘gal pals’ is absolutely essential. These women are my sounding board, my cheerleaders, and my partners in crime for all our silly adventures. We schedule regular meet-ups, whether it’s for a potluck, a movie night, or trying out a new restaurant. We even have a book club where we discuss everything from bestsellers to life’s biggest questions. The laughter and camaraderie are truly invaluable; they say laughter is the best medicine, and I certainly feel younger after a night out with my friends! Finally, it's about cultivating that 'La Dolce Vita' mindset. It’s about appreciating the small things – a beautiful sunset, a delicious cup of coffee, a good conversation. It’s about letting go of societal expectations about what a 'senior' should be doing and instead, focusing on what brings me joy. Yes, I have wrinkles and my hair is white, but these are just markers of a life well-lived, full of stories and wisdom. I choose to see them as badges of honor, a testament to every laugh, every tear, and every adventure. Every day is an opportunity to embrace life with a youthful spirit and make it truly sweet.
