L&D hospital bag MUST HAVES!👜
If you’re pregnant, you want to have your hospital bag packed and ready to go no later than 36 weeks!
The last thing you want is for an emergency to occur & you have to run around the house looking for your things or leave the house without them.
So here’s a checklist so you don’t miss a thing ✔️
Make sure to save this for later.
👜ESSENTIALS
•Identification: your ID & insurance cards.
•Postpartum panties: the hospitals provide large, mesh underwear, but my experience they were not very comfortable. Look into cotton ones or disposable ones.
•Belly band: first of all a belly band is not about “bouncing back” or what you look like. A belly band is going to provide you with SO much support so you can move around & recover a lot smoother.
👜BREASTFEEDING:
if you’re planning to breast-feed, make sure you also pack these supplies. Most hospitals will provide you with a breast pump to use while you’re there, but make sure to ask ahead of time.
👜BABY:
The hospital will provide you with almost everything you need for baby. Wipes, diapers, blankets, everything. So pack lightly for baby but don’t forget a cute receiving blanket to get those cute hospital pictures!
👜DAD:
Make sure dad also packs his own hospital bag with at least two changes of clothes, toiletries & a pillow & blanket.
👜EXTRAS:
these are some of the most popular items that some moms also consider as hospital bag must haves but aren’t totally necessary. It’s really up to you & your preferences.

Packing your hospital bag is a crucial step for any expecting mother as you approach labor and delivery. It’s essential to gather all the necessities in advance—ideally by 36 weeks—so you’re prepared for any situation. Start with the essentials: identification and insurance cards are a must. Don’t forget comfortable postpartum garments like cotton underwear or disposable options to ensure comfort during recovery. A belly band can provide support post-delivery, aiding your mobility and comfort. If you're considering breastfeeding, include items such as nursing bras, nipple cream, and any breast-pumping supplies you might need. Even though hospitals often have facilities, it’s good to check what will be available in advance. For your baby, most hospitals provide the basics such as diapers and wipes, but remember to pack some personal items like a special blanket for those adorable first photos. Fathers should also come prepared with a bag of their own, including toiletries, multiple changes of clothes, and even a pillow for comfort. Additionally, while many items may be labeled as optional, consider packing extras like snacks, a phone charger, or your birth plan, ensuring that all your preferences are met during your hospital stay. Don’t overlook comfort items like slippers and a water tumbler for hydration. Lastly, be sure to personalize your packing list according to your specific needs and preferences to create a stress-free labor and delivery experience.
