NON-TOXIC sunscreen for babies & toddlers☀️🧴

These are my 2 sunscreen options for my toddlers, Thinkbaby & Pipette.

I like them both because they are made with clean ingredients and mineral based. They’re also both safe & hypoallergenic.

I slightly prefer Pipette over Thinkbaby cause it’s completely fragrance-free, but they’re both great options to protect your kids from sunburn this summer.

When I first started looking, the sheer number of options felt overwhelming! I quickly realized that not all sunscreens are created equal, especially when it comes to delicate baby and toddler skin. This led me down the path of researching 'non-toxic baby sunscreen' options, and what I found completely changed how I approach sun protection for my kids. The term 'non-toxic' isn't just a buzzword; it really means looking for formulas free from harmful chemicals that can irritate sensitive skin or even be absorbed into the bloodstream. This is why I always gravitate towards mineral-based sunscreens. These use naturally occurring minerals like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to create a physical barrier on the skin, deflecting UV rays. Unlike chemical sunscreens, which absorb UV rays, mineral sunscreens act like tiny mirrors, sitting on top of the skin rather than soaking in. Both Thinkbaby and Pipette, the brands I trust, are fantastic examples of effective mineral sunscreens with powerful SPF 50 protection. I appreciate that Thinkbaby specifically highlights its use of zinc oxide as a key ingredient, ensuring broad-spectrum coverage. Beyond just being mineral-based, I also look for other 'clean' attributes. For instance, Pipette proudly states its formula is 'fragrance-free' and 'non-nano'. The 'fragrance-free' aspect is a huge plus for avoiding potential allergens or irritants, especially for babies with eczema or very sensitive skin. 'Non-nano' means the mineral particles are larger and less likely to be absorbed, maintaining that physical barrier on the skin’s surface. It's also reassuring to see brands like Thinkbaby emphasizing they are 'reef-friendly' and 'vegan', which are important considerations for both environmental impact and ethical choices. Applying sunscreen to a wiggly toddler can sometimes feel like a wrestling match, but I've picked up a few tricks! I always try to apply it generously at least 15-20 minutes before we head outside, giving it time to settle. Don't forget often-missed spots like the tops of ears, the back of the neck, and the tops of feet. And remember to reapply every two hours, or more frequently if they're swimming or sweating a lot. It’s better to be overly cautious than to risk a sunburn! But sunscreen is just one part of the sun safety equation. I always combine it with other protective measures. Wide-brimmed hats are a must for keeping the sun off their faces and necks, and lightweight UPF clothing offers an extra layer of defense, especially for long days outdoors. Seeking shade during peak sun hours (usually 10 AM to 4 PM) is also crucial. Whether it's under an umbrella, a tree, or staying indoors for a bit, these breaks from direct sunlight make a big difference. Ultimately, a multi-faceted approach to sun protection gives me peace of mind, knowing I'm doing my best to keep my little ones safe while they explore and enjoy the sunny days.

Thinkbaby works, but it’s sooo thick and oily 😩 it makes my son’s eyes uncomfortable, so I can’t use it daily in him..
