Life as an RBT 🧩

hello lemon8ers , you might see posts like nurses or doctors, etc. but in this field I work with kids on the spectrum 🧩 I’m here as an therapist and a healthcare worker to treat those kiddos that just need a little bit more help when it comes to their developmental stages 🧩 I work with kids within the ages of 2yrs old to 6yrs old 🧩

I work with different clients throughout the week and every kid is different 🧩 I implement different ABA (american bar association) techniques for each kid 🧩 For example, I have kids that need more help when it comes to socially interact with other kids, or some that need more help communicating, or simply doing day to day tasks that are a little difficult for them to handle 🧩 Have you heard about this field before? If so comment below 🧩 #lemon8challenge #healthcare

For instance, when a child completes a task such as discrete trial training (DTT), they earn tokens that build up to a reward like coloring or a favorite game like Candy Land. This system motivates my clients and makes learning fun. For children who are nonverbal, I often use PECS boards with cards showing common phrases like "help," "all done," "more," or "go." This helps them communicate their needs effectively. Sometimes I incorporate basic sign language along with the PECS cards to further support communication. Many people ask if RBTs are healthcare workers. While we are not medical professionals like doctors or nurses, as RBTs we play a crucial role in behavioral healthcare by implementing evidence-based therapies to improve developmental skills. Each child I work with requires a tailored approach because their needs vary greatly, whether it's social interaction, communication, or daily living skills. Additionally, wearing the right attire and having essential tools ready—like my token boards and PECS materials—is important for creating a structured learning environment. This job takes patience and creativity but seeing progress in my little clients is incredibly fulfilling. If you’re curious about becoming an RBT or interested in behavioral therapy techniques, I’d love to connect and share more insights. This field is truly rewarding for those passionate about helping children on the spectrum thrive.

I’m interested in becoming an RBT. Where did you go to get your 40 hours of training?
