You've seen his initial reveal, but I wanted to dive a bit deeper into his creation process and what makes him, well, him. When I started thinking about a new original character, I knew I wanted something with a strong, distinct presence. The name Obsidian came to mind almost immediately. I love the idea of something beautiful and sharp, formed from intense heat, and that became a core inspiration for his overall vibe. I envisioned a character who might seem a bit mysterious or even intimidating at first glance, but with a deep, loyal heart – much like the stone itself, which is often used for protection. His design journey was a fun challenge. I focused on incorporating dark, reflective elements to mimic the stone, playing with subtle hints of deep purples and blues in his shading to give him a unique glow that really pops on screen. For the digital art aspect, I experimented with various brush textures to give his outfit and hair a slightly stylized, almost crystalline edge without making him look too rigid. I spent a lot of time on his eyes, trying to convey a thoughtful, perhaps even a bit melancholic, personality that contrasts with his strong exterior. It's always a balancing act to get those details just right in a digital painting! Of course, a character isn't just about looks. I've been developing his backstory and personality, and he plays a really interesting role in my OC universe. He's got a quiet strength, a protector's instinct, and a surprisingly gentle side, especially when it comes to those he cares about. That's why he's such a perfect match for my other OC, Danny. Their dynamic is something I'm really enjoying exploring – the strong, silent type paired with someone who brings out his softer qualities. I love how characters develop relationships and how those connections add so much depth to their stories. I'm already planning more art pieces and possibly even a short comic showcasing Obsidian's adventures and his interactions with Danny. It's incredibly rewarding to see a character come to life from just an idea. What kind of OCs do you enjoy creating, and what inspires your character designs? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
