... Read moreHey everyone! So, you've seen my post showcasing my absolute favorite characters, from the iconic Giorno Giovanna of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure to the adventurous Gon Freecss from Hunter x Hunter, and even the mysterious Kris from Deltarune. I used a fun little 'favorite character template' idea to categorize them, and I wanted to share how you can do it too, and why it's such a great exercise for any artist!
First off, why draw characters you love? For me, it's about connecting with stories and personalities that resonate deeply. When I draw my 'comfort character' like Gon, it feels like I'm revisiting a warm, familiar place. It's also fantastic practice! You're already familiar with their design, so you can focus more on technique, expression, or even trying a new art style.
Now, about that 'favorite character template' idea – it’s super flexible! Here's how I think about it and how you can adapt it:
'Current Favorite': Who are you obsessed with *right now*? For me, it was Giorno Giovanna. Their design, their arc – it just clicked. This helps you capture your current artistic interests.
'Comfort Character': Who do you draw when you need a pick-me-up? Gon Freecss is mine. They’re a source of pure joy and determination. Drawing them feels therapeutic.
'By Design': Which character has a design that just screams 'draw me'? Diego Brando, with his distinct look, is a perfect example. Focus on their outfits, their unique features, their silhouette.
'By Plot': Who impacted you most through their story? Omori, from the game of the same name, profoundly moved me. Drawing characters 'by plot' helps you explore emotional depth and narrative through art.
'Guilty Favorite': Is there a character you secretly adore, maybe one that’s a bit quirky or villainous? Jevil from Deltarune definitely falls into this category for me! It’s fun to embrace those unexpected loves.
'All-Time Favorite': The one character who holds a special place in your heart, always. For me, that's Kris from Deltarune. They're a constant source of inspiration.
Once you've picked your categories and characters, don't overthink the drawing process! Even simple sketches can be incredibly rewarding. Focus on capturing their essence. Maybe just their face, a pose, or even an iconic accessory. Remember, the goal isn't always perfection, but expression and enjoyment.
I encourage you all to try this 'draw a character you like' challenge! It's a fantastic way to explore your fandoms, practice your art skills, and share a piece of yourself with others. Don't forget to share your creations – I'd love to see who your favorites are!
