“Annie’s Cat is Sad”
This is one of mine and my kiddo’s fave books currently!
One particular part she loves is when Annie makes Delilah a cattuccino. The word is fun, and the gal still loves warm milk herself. So I offered to make her one!
I spiced it up a little because she always has warm milk anyways so I added fluff and crushed up a Kit Kat. I just worked with what I had in the house.
Pulling activities from books is so helpful for their reading comprehension and truly can be so simple! This book has so many more options too. I definitely recommend it in general, it has a lil twist I didn’t expect and a very cute message.
Any other book/activity combos you’d recommend?!
Reading with toddlers is not just about the books, but how you engage them with the stories. 'Annie’s Cat is Sad' presents a wonderful tale that encourages creativity and interaction beyond the pages. By recreating memorable moments from the book, such as making a whimsical 'cattuccino', children can connect with the characters and deepen their understanding of the plot. This process of recreating scenes can significantly enhance reading comprehension, as it fosters connections between the child’s reality and the narrative. Consider using props or ingredients available at home, allowing your little ones to help in the kitchen, which combines learning with sensory play. Furthermore, activities inspired by stories can lead to discussions about feelings, as children explore why characters might be sad or happy, and even how they might react in similar situations.
