You know that feeling, right? That constant hum of 'what if's' and 'I should haves' in your head? For so long, I struggled with overthinking every single detail of my life. I thought if I just planned enough, worried enough, controlled enough, things would go my way. But all it did was leave me exhausted and anxious. Then I started really digging into what it means to 'rest in God's control.' It's not about being passive or giving up on responsibility; it's about shifting my focus from my limited understanding to His infinite wisdom. It's about acknowledging that He is sovereign, and His plans are always for my good, even when I can't see the full picture. One verse that truly changed my perspective, and which I even journaled about (like in my entry from December 6, 2025!), is Psalm 46:10: 'Be still, and know that I am God.' This isn't just a suggestion; it's an invitation to stop striving. I realized that my striving often came from a place of fear, trying to manipulate outcomes. But when I chose to be still—to quiet the noise in my mind and in my surroundings—I could actually hear His voice. It became clearer, more comforting, and often, completely different from what my fears were shouting. So, how do I practically do this? My journey involves a few key habits. First, I make quiet time with God a non-negotiable. This isn't always a long, elaborate session; sometimes it's just five minutes of silence, focusing on my breath and inviting His presence. Other times, it's journaling my thoughts, fears, and hopes, much like that handwritten entry where I reflected on releasing control and trusting His sovereignty. Writing it down helps me process and then consciously hand it over to Him. Another crucial part is prayer. Not just asking for things, but truly pouring out my heart and then listening. I've learned to pray for peace, strength, and unwavering faith, especially when worries try to creep back in. It's a continuous practice of letting God's voice be louder than any fear or doubt. Releasing control is probably the hardest part. It means accepting that some things are simply not up to me, and that's okay. It means trusting that even if things don't go according to my plan, they are still within His perfect plan. This trust doesn't happen overnight; it's built brick by brick through small acts of surrender and seeing His faithfulness play out in my life. The pay-off? Profound peace that truly 'hits different.' It's not the absence of problems, but the presence of calm amidst them. It's the freedom from the heavy burden of trying to control everything. If you're struggling with overthinking, I wholeheartedly encourage you to explore what it means to rest in God's control. Start small. Find a quiet moment. Read Psalm 46:10. And just breathe, trusting that He's got it all. Your faith journey will thank you.
