... Read moreOkay, so I finally got to dine at Be Our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom, and I have to be completely honest about my experience, especially with the much-talked-about dessert trio. I went in with such high hopes, wanting to love everything about this iconic dining spot, but sometimes reality hits different.
Let's dive into that dessert trio first, since it's practically legendary. The one I had featured a lemon jam macaron, a chocolate tart enhanced with 'The Grey Stuff' and a cute white chocolate wafer, and a dark chocolate truffle. Visually, it's stunning, perfectly presented on a blue plate next to a glowing candle – very Instagrammable! However, the taste didn't quite match the presentation for me. The chocolate tart was passable; the 'Grey Stuff' was fun to try, but the tart itself was just… okay. Nothing revolutionary. And unfortunately, the other two left a lot to be desired. The lemon jam macaron was a miss for my palate, and the dark chocolate truffle didn't really stand out. I really wanted to be wowed, but I just wasn't. It felt like they relied more on the visual appeal and the 'Grey Stuff' novelty than the actual flavors.
Beyond the desserts, one area I always look forward to at a Disney dining experience is the appetizers. Since my main course and dessert didn't quite hit the mark, I was really hoping the appetizers would shine. On my visit, I opted for the French Onion Soup. It's a classic for a reason, and a dish I usually love. At Be Our Guest, it came out piping hot, with that beautiful melted Gruyère cheese crust that promises comfort. The broth was rich and savory, and the caramelized onions were sweet and tender. It was definitely a highlight of the meal, a well-executed dish that felt authentically French and prepared with care. Another option I saw go by was the Assorted Cured Meats and Cheeses, which looked very appealing with a variety of textures and flavors – perfect for sharing if you're dining with family or friends.
Considering the price point and the overall hype around Be Our Guest, while the atmosphere is truly enchanting (dining in the Beast's castle is an experience in itself!), I'd say the food, particularly the dessert trio, left me a bit underwhelmed. The French Onion Soup, however, was a pleasant surprise and definitely worth considering if you're looking for a solid starter. It's a tough call because the ambiance is five-star, but the actual culinary journey was a bit hit-or-miss for me. If you're going for the experience and don't mind potentially average food, it's still worth a visit for the sheer magic of it all. But if you're a serious foodie looking for gourmet delights, you might find other Disney restaurants more satisfying.
