Kids Bedroom Refresh 🧺🧹
A little bedroom clean-up for the kids!
Before I’m asked - yes, my kids rooms are pretty minimal. My son (5) refuses to bring toys in his room so it stays pretty clean. His choice - I’m not complaining lol.
Also, I figured mid January was a great time to take down his Christmas tree 🫣

I totally get that keeping a kids' bedroom tidy can feel like a never-ending battle! My original post touched on how having fewer toys helps, but I wanted to dive a bit deeper into some practical tips I've learned for maintaining that fresh, clean feeling, especially when it comes to the bed area. After all, the bed is usually the centerpiece of a 'Kids Bedroom Refresh,' right? First off, let's talk about the bed frame itself. It's amazing how much dust and grime can accumulate there! For wooden or metal frames, I try to do a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth (and maybe a little all-purpose cleaner) once a week. You'd be surprised what you pick up! If it's an upholstered frame, a good vacuuming with the brush attachment is key to getting rid of dust and any crumbs that might have found their way in. For tougher spots, a gentle fabric cleaner can work wonders – just be sure to patch test first. I’ve had my share of crayon marks and sticky spills, so having a magic eraser or a stain remover pen on hand is a lifesaver for quick fixes before they set. Beyond the frame, mattress care is super important for a truly clean 'room kids' environment. I use a mattress protector – seriously, it's a non-negotiable! It guards against spills, dust mites, and accidents, making clean-up so much easier. I also try to flip or rotate the mattress every few months to ensure even wear and airing out. When I change the sheets, I let the mattress breathe for a little while before putting fresh linens on. Speaking of linens, establishing a regular washing routine for bedding is a game-changer. I aim for once a week for sheets and pillowcases, and blankets get washed every couple of weeks, or more often if someone's been sick. Fresh bedding instantly elevates the whole room! Now, for general room maintenance, even with a minimalist approach, things can get a bit disheveled. My biggest tip for a lasting 'Kids Bedroom Refresh' feeling is having designated spots for everything. Even if my son doesn't keep toys in his room, clothes, books, and art supplies still need homes. Simple baskets or open shelves make it easy for him (and me!) to put things away quickly. A quick 5-minute tidy-up before bed, where everything goes back to its spot, prevents clutter from building up. Another thing I’ve found helpful, especially around seasonal changes (like taking down that Christmas tree in mid-January, oops!), is to have a "donation" box or bag handy. As we put away holiday decor or rotate out clothes, it’s a great opportunity to declutter and pass on items that are no longer needed or used. It keeps the flow of things manageable and prevents new clutter from forming. Ultimately, keeping a kid's room clean and maintained, from the bed frame to the floor, boils down to a few simple habits. Regular, quick cleaning sessions are far more effective than trying to tackle a mountain of mess once a month. Plus, involving your kids in age-appropriate tasks, even just putting their pajamas in the laundry, really helps foster a sense of responsibility and makes the whole process smoother. It’s all about making it manageable for everyone involved!
