Meeting a person only a handful of times, especially through family or friends, can create a strange blend of familiarity and distance. For instance, knowing that someone's family background is different from what you initially assumed — for example, thinking their family is in Sudan when it's actually in Saudi Arabia — adds to the mystery and disconnect. From my experience, such encounters often leave us questioning our understanding of those individuals. When meetings are limited, like only 9 or 10 times possibly spread over months or years, it’s hard to build a complete picture. This can lead to feelings of disbelief and even sadness, especially if you had higher expectations about the relationship or connection. These moments are powerful because they highlight how complex human connections can be, shaped by limited information, assumptions, and the context in which we meet people. It’s important to recognize that not everyone will fit into the neat categories or stories we expect, and that sometimes, knowing someone is about accepting the mystery. If you find yourself in a similar situation, consider embracing the ambiguity rather than forcing clarity. These kinds of relationships can still impact us, offering lessons in trust, boundaries, and the value of genuine connection when it does occur.
