The Push by Ashley Audrain

The Push by Ashley Audrain completely wrecked me in the best way!! Like OMG. This is one of those books that gets under your skin and refuses to leave. What starts as a story about motherhood quickly becomes dark, disturbing and unsettling. With a terrifying lingering question: what if a mother’s instincts are right, but no one believes her?

Ashley Audrain created characters that felt incredibly real, flawed, frustrating, heartbreaking, and impossible to forget. Whether you sympathize with them or not, you’ll definitely have opinions.

This is NOT a feel good read. BUT If you love books that leave you uncomfortable, a little disturbed, emotionally damaged, and immediately searching for someone to discuss them with, this one’s for you! Amazing! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

... Read moreReading "The Push" by Ashley Audrain was a unique experience that truly stayed with me long after I finished the last page. The novel explores the complex emotions surrounding motherhood, peeling back layers to reveal a deeply unsettling perspective few books dare to tackle. What struck me most was how the story challenges the idealized notion of maternal instincts by showing a mother whose fears and doubts escalate, yet are met with disbelief by those around her. The characters feel incredibly lifelike—flawed and deeply human. This realism creates an emotional tension that makes the story hard to put down. I found myself frequently questioning the nature of motherhood and how much of a mother’s experience is shaped by internal fears versus external realities. The psychological depth Audrain adds to the narrative makes it a compelling study of maternal identity, trust, and the fine line between love and fear. If you're someone who enjoys psychological thrillers that explore dark, emotional themes and provoke meaningful discussions, this book is a perfect choice. It’s not a light read, and it doesn’t shy away from discomfort, but the raw honesty and intricacy of the storytelling make it a powerful and memorable novel. Whether you find yourself sympathizing with or frustrated by the characters, "The Push" leaves no reader indifferent. For fans of thriller books and dark novels, "The Push" delivers an intense, thought-provoking experience that prompts reflection on familial bonds and the societal expectations placed on mothers. It’s a standout debut novel and an excellent pick for anyone looking for a story with lasting emotional impact.

The Push by: Ashley Audrain
*This book is for the Readers who enjoy dark, psychological fiction. Nature-vs.-Nurture debates are put forth very well—as I tried to determine the true villains here: Mother? – or Child? As the dark turns darker, this gets to be a very frightening story, flat-out scary. I just loved it! 🥰
