REEL 8
From personal experience, navigating the aftermath of severe emotional and psychological distress can feel overwhelming and isolating. The feeling of being a "wounded, damaged person" is something many who encounter trauma deeply understand. In my own journey, I found that acknowledging these difficult emotions without judgment was the first crucial step toward healing. It’s important to recognize that healing is non-linear and can be accompanied by physical manifestations such as exhaustion or changes in the body’s normal rhythms, similar to how some describe not having their periods or experiencing premature aging. These symptoms highlight the profound connection between mind and body when dealing with trauma. Furthermore, the sense of "angst and misery" described often leads to moments of vulnerability, where one may feel the urge to retreat entirely. However, learning to "pretend to be human" during those hardest moments, as painful as it sounds, can be a survival mechanism. It’s a way of pushing through when despair threatens to take over. Faith, whether spiritual, in oneself, or in others, plays a vital role in this process. The statement about having "tremendous faith in me," reflects how reclaiming trust and hope is essential for moving forward. Gratitude, even for small victories like simply waking up, provides anchors amidst emotional storms. In addition, sharing these struggles honestly, as seen in the candid admission of being "disordered," can reduce stigma and encourage others to seek help and find community. It’s okay to say you’re not done fighting, that you are "back today," and that this journey demands mandatory acts of self-care and self-compassion. If you or someone you know is going through similar pain, remember that you are not alone. Recovery takes time, support, and often professional guidance, but there is light beyond the pain. Listening to your own needs and embracing moments of faith and gratitude can be powerful tools in reclaiming your soul and your life.
