RDLs teach your body how to hinge and carry load without destroying your lower back. If RDLs bother your lower back, it’s usually not the exercise but the hinge. Think about your hips being pulled straight back instead of bending down. You should feel a stretch in your hamstrings and glutes. This is how you know you’re doing it right. #gym #gymtok #glutes #workoutroutine #selfcare

... Read moreRomanian Deadlifts (RDLs) are a fantastic exercise for strengthening your posterior chain, especially the hamstrings and glutes, but mastering the hinge movement is key. When I first started doing RDLs, I experienced some discomfort in my lower back until I adjusted my technique to focus on pushing my hips straight back instead of bending from the waist downward. This simple adjustment transformed the exercise from painful to highly effective. One useful tip is to imagine closing a door with your hips—the motion naturally pulls your hips backward and lengthens your hamstrings without rounding your spine. If you feel any strain in your lower back, pause and check your form. Keeping a neutral spine and initiating the movement from the hips is essential. I often perform RDLs in front of a mirror or record myself to monitor the hip hinge and ensure proper posture. Also, start with lighter weights or just bodyweight to develop a strong mind-muscle connection with your hamstrings and glutes. Over time, as your form improves, gradually increase the load. Aside from helping you avoid lower back pain, RDLs teach your body how to carry loads safely, which translates well into daily activities and other lifts. Integrating this exercise into your workout routine can lead to stronger, more resilient hips and better overall posture. If you continue to feel discomfort despite good form, consider consulting a fitness professional or physical therapist. Sometimes tight hip flexors or weak core muscles can contribute to improper movement patterns. Stretching and strengthening complementary muscles can significantly improve your RDL experience and results.

Lower Back Burn During RDLs? 🤷🏻‍♀️
The RDL creates stress in the lower back and upper glutes because it is a hip-hinge movement that loads the posterior chain while the spine stays in an isometric position. As you push your hips back, the gluteus maximus and proximal hamstrings lengthen under load, which increases mechanical tension
