Book Update- Priory of the Orange Tree

My sweet Bowie has been providing me with support as I FINALLY read this monster of a book. I first picked this up years ago and I’ve started it a million times. I am doing a buddy read with a friend from TikTok and we are a little over 1/2 way through.

I will share my full thoughts after I finish but, I sadly don’t think it will be a 5 star read. There are so many main characters that we don’t get to any depth or get a chance to truly feel for them. When I finally was caring about 2, the very next page it changed. I’m hoping the next half gets better. It’s not horrible and I am intrigued and enjoying just think for a book so big there should be a lot more character depth and growth. We will see! (Just my opinions) I do LOVE that there is a good sapphic love story and I really hope I get just a little bit more.

... Read moreIn 'The Priory of the Orange Tree,' readers are taken on a sprawling journey filled with political intrigue, rich world-building, and complex characters. This high-fantasy novel, by Samantha Shannon, features strong feminist themes and LGBTQ+ representation, notably through its sapphic romance elements that add depth and relatability to the narrative. Despite its length, many readers find themselves caught up in the dynamics of the diverse cast. Although some critique the book for its pacing and character development, others appreciate the intricate plot lines and the way Shannon weaves together multiple perspectives. If you're seeking a fantasy novel that challenges traditional norms while delivering thrilling adventures, this might be worth your time. As you continue your reading journey, look out for themes of power, loyalty, and sacrifice, which resonate through the relationships depicted. With engaging side characters and a richly imagined world, 'The Priory of the Orange Tree' invites both fantasy lovers and general readers to immerse themselves in a story that is as compelling as it is expansive. Stay tuned for more personal reflections as you progress through this significant read!
