Car Ride Snacks 🚘🍎
I’m a big snacker and a huge fall lover 🍁 our closest Apple orchard is a little over an hour away, so I packed some yummy snacks and loaded up our dogs and hit the road! I like to have a mix of healthy and sweet treats! I packed some of my favorite Mediterranean, olives, little dill crunchy pickles, a variety of cheesses, a prebiotic soda, some seasonal Halloween Oreos, some Lindt chocolate, bananas, some strawberries, Chex mix and fig newtons. Everything was so delicious! 😋 when we got there we walked our dogs around, picked apples, got the best Carmel apple I’ve ever had and cider doughnuts haha. We even found a fun little hike afterwards! Needless to say it was a wonderful day!
You know, packing the right snacks for a car ride can honestly make or break the trip! Whether it's a short drive to a local event or a longer adventure, having a stash of delicious and convenient bites is a game-changer. I recently packed up my car for a fun apple-picking day, and it got me thinking about all the ways a good snack strategy makes travel so much smoother. It's not just about satisfying hunger; it's about keeping spirits high and avoiding unnecessary stops. When I’m planning my car ride snack haul, I always think about a few key things: mess-factor, ease of eating on the go, and a good balance of flavors. Nobody wants crumbs everywhere or sticky fingers on the steering wheel! That’s why I often lean towards things that are pre-portioned or easy to grab. For the 'healthy and fresh' category, fruits are always a winner. Besides my go-to bananas and strawberries, I love bringing grapes (they're so refreshing!), pre-sliced apples (a nod to our orchard trip!), or even some carrot sticks and cucumber slices. Pre-washing and cutting everything beforehand saves so much time and hassle in the car. It’s also a great way to sneak in some vitamins, especially if you're hitting up an orchard later and might indulge in some cider doughnuts – totally worth it, by the way! Then there's the 'savory and satisfying' crew. My love for Mediterranean olives, crunchy dill pickles, and a variety of cheeses is real – they bring such a gourmet feel to a simple car ride! But beyond those, consider things like roasted nuts (almonds or cashews are my faves), beef jerky for a protein boost, or even some whole-grain crackers. Chex Mix is a classic for a reason; it’s got that perfect mix of textures and flavors that keeps you reaching for more. And, of course, a little sweetness is essential for that mid-drive pick-me-up! While those seasonal Halloween Oreos and Lindt chocolates hit the spot for me, I also love the fruitiness of fig newtons. Sometimes, I’ll even pack some homemade oatmeal cookies or energy bites. It’s all about balance, right? Just make sure whatever sweet treat you choose isn't too sticky or crumbly. Don't forget hydration! While my prebiotic soda is a fun treat, water is non-negotiable. I always pack a reusable water bottle (or two!) to stay refreshed. Finally, a few practical tips: Cooler Bag is Your Best Friend: Especially for cheeses, fruits, and any drinks. Small Containers: Perfect for separating snacks and preventing squishing. Trash Bag: A small grocery bag tied to the headrest or seat can be a lifesaver for wrappers and cores. And here’s a little secret for after your trip, or even to add to your snack bag if you find them along the way: keep an eye out for local specialties! During our apple orchard visit, I saw signs for delicious Jams and Jellies and even heard about unique apple varieties like Honeygold of Minnesota. These local finds can be fantastic souvenirs or even become part of your next car ride snack rotation, adding a unique regional flavor to your journey. What are your absolute must-have car ride snacks? I'd love to hear your go-to's!
