Large boho knotless on myself ✨
Starting off the year with hopes of KEEPING my hair done 💁🏽♀️😂 do my hair with me! #newyear2025 #bohobraids #knotless #hair #braids
Starting a new year always makes me want a fresh look, and this time, I was determined to achieve those beautiful jumbo boho knotless braids myself! I've seen so many stunning styles online, and I thought, "Come do my hair with me!" – why not try it at home? First things first, preparation is key for any DIY braiding project, especially when you're aiming for large, full braids. I started by gathering all my supplies: 6-8 packs of pre-stretched braiding hair (I opted for a human hair blend for the boho curls, as it holds up better), a good rat-tail comb for parting, hair clips, strong hair gel for neat parts, moisturizing mousse, scissors, and a good mirror. For jumbo knotless braids, you'll need more hair per section than for smaller ones, so don't skimp! I also made sure my own hair was freshly washed, deep-conditioned, and thoroughly blow-dried or stretched to minimize tangles during the process. Now for the fun part: the braiding itself! I found that precise sectioning makes a huge difference in the final look of large boho knotless braids. I started by creating clean, square-shaped sections, ensuring they were big enough to accommodate the desired jumbo size. Then, for each section, I took a small piece of my own hair at the root and began a regular three-strand braid. After a few stitches, I started adding small pieces of the braiding hair, gradually increasing the thickness to create that seamless, 'knotless' transition. This technique prevents the tension and bulk at the scalp often associated with traditional box braids, making them much more comfortable. To achieve the signature 'boho' look, I incorporated wavy or curly hair throughout the braid. Instead of braiding all the way down, I left out sections of the curly hair at various points along the braid and at the ends. This gives that beautiful, free-flowing, and natural appearance. For jumbo braids, you might leave out slightly larger sections of curls to maintain proportion. I experimented with how much hair to leave out until I found a look I loved. It took me a while, but seeing the large boho knotless braids come together was so rewarding! Once all the braids were in, I dipped the ends in hot water to seal them, taking care to keep the curly pieces out of the water to preserve their texture. A good moisturizing mousse was then applied to set the style and prevent frizz. For maintenance, I found tying them up in a silk scarf or bonnet at night is essential to prevent tangling and frizz. Washing them gently with diluted shampoo and conditioning foam every 2-3 weeks, focusing on the scalp, helps keep them fresh. And don't forget to refresh those boho curls with a light mousse or curl activator as needed. It's a bit of work to do them myself, but the feeling of rocking my own handmade large boho knotless braids is absolutely worth it!
